    3. Good point. This is something I found out when we visited Putnam Co. courthouse. I was looking for a 1832 marriage and didn't find the book in the vault. There IS a book, it's the earlies recorded marriages in the county and is not accessible by the general public. When I asked again about it and had the volume and page number, one of the ladies knew about this volume and went to the basement of the courthouse to retrieve it. This book is in good condition, just fragile. I was not allowed to make copies, but had them place the book on a desk in front of a window and took digital photos of it. She found it in a very old fragile book, not accessed by the public.. The last name was MOSS. In old American writing, a double "ss" was written as "fs".. when I told her that, she then found the names.. I sent the money and request back to her.. Now I hope I get it.. 3. I wonder why they don't just make an uncertified certificate of the marriage record. Someplaces will do that for a very minimal fee. Usually a couple of dollars. I do not live in the area but if asked they might be able to do something like that.
