    1. Re: [INPUTNAM] Deer Creek Baptist records
    2. Robert: I am the one who transcribed the Deer Creek Baptist records and I transcribed everything I received. Dora Mae Turner, the dear lady who passed these documents on to me, does not recall where they came from. The following is an excerpt from one of Dora Mae's latest e-mail messages: "I've had those minutes for so long, I honestly can't remember who sent them to me, but imagine it was Carolyn Yancey (Little) Kent who lives in AR. She had done much research years ago and shared it with me." Robert, since my early relatives seem to have all been Baptists, I am very interested in your web site. My 3rd g. grandparents Thomas and Hannah Brockman Bastin were members of the Lick Fork Baptist Church of Rockingham County, N.C. c. 1790/1817. I have a few excerpts from the minutes of that church which I will be glad to share if you are interested. My great grandparents James and Catherine Keith Langwill were members of the Omaha Baptist Church in Omaha, Arkansas, for about 30 years prior to the death of James in 1915. I have quite a lot of those records and I found that my Langwell family usually was in some kind of trouble with the church. Always had a committee going out there to straighten them out. There is a lot more info in the Arkansas church records than those of the church in Indiana or the one in N.C. although there are some interesting tidbits in the N.C. minutes. Again, my relatives acting out. Nell Langwell Gronberg

    3. In 2000 I was in Putnam Co. and had the good fortune to meet with a Mr. Hurst (I believe his first name was Jesse, but I'm not certain about that). Anyway, he was at the time the secretary for the Deer Creek congregation and had control of all the original records for Deer Creek Church. He happened to have them at his home, because another person had written, asking to see them. He let me look over them, and copy the passages relevant to the people I was searching (Pecks and McCartys). According to Mr. Hurst, the records are stored in a bank deposit box in Cloverdale (at that time at least, and it's probable still the case). There were several years worth of material. I think Mr. Hurst or the current secretary would be amenable to someone transcribing the records. It turns out Mr. Hurst and I are distantly related, but then I'm related to half of Putnam Co. ;-) Krys "Writing is no trouble: you just jot down ideas as they occur to you. The jotting is simplicity itself--it is the occurring which is difficult." -- Stephen Leacock
