The book, From Needmore to Prosperity: Hoosier Place Names in Folklore History, has a little information on Carpentersville. It says it is in Putnam County. "This village was laid out in 1840 and named for Philip Carpenter, who came here about 1831, established a tannery and harness factory, and later became postmaster. The post office was established on May 23, 1850; closed on October 15, 1910. Carpenterville Town is a variant name." Roberta Wysong
