As I have researched my family, I have seen several references to West Unity. My g grandaunt "Aunt Kate" O'Conner Smith was a member of the West Unity Church, according to her 1949 obit. My gg grandparents, John and Eva O'Conner, were married there in 1859, and their marriage is listed as having been performed in Owen County. Yet no one at the C.H. or library seems to have heard of it. It's not in their listings of defunct churches. The good folks there suggested it may have been over the line in Putnam County.
