DUKES BIO Greencastle Indiana, Putnam county seat, was founded in 1821 on land deeded to the county by EPHRAIM DUKES. In 1825, DUKES' son-in-law, John Wesley CLARK gave additional land. Together the 160 acre tract comprise Greencastle today. Local tradition asserts that the name Greencastle was chosen because EPHRAIM DUKES had originally come to Indiana from Greencastle, Pennsylvania. My Ephraim was married to Jane ESLINGER (2nd wife?) 26Jan1826 in Putnam county, but living in Cass county later that same year, was a preacher, living in Pulaski county 1842 until his death in 1872. Jane's brother Andrew married Sally DUKES 01Aug1822. Have reference that Sally was Ephraim's daughter, and one that she was his sister. My Ephraim DUKES a junior? Looking for more details on founder of Greencastle. Any links, hints, data, or new relatives graciously accepted! bldukes@webtv.net cable_d@excite.com Brian L. Dukes
