Anyone working on Putnam Co in Civil War? Checking notes looks like half the doctors in the SLAVENS family were all in Putnam County Indiana during the Civil War. Two of them were from Dallas County, MO and returned back there after the war. Doctor John March Slavens and Sarah Warden Slavens lived in Putnam County, Indiana. John March Slavens was a physician and surgeon, and he along with Doctor John"Jack"Slavens (KY), Joseph W.R.Slavens,(MO) and Dr. Zenas Ludolphus Slavens (MO) practiced medicine with Dr.James Hervey Slavens in Portland Mills, Putnam County,Indiana from 1861-1863. John March Slavens was buried at Brick Chapel,Putnam County,Indiana. He and Sarah Warden Slavens became the parents of six children Dr.James Hervey Slavens supposedly helped the Indiana Home Guard in the area .He would have been probably some sort of surgeon or assistant surgeon. I can find no public record of this. Anyone know where to look for Indiana Home Guard, Putnam County? In 1863 Zenas joined the 115th: 115th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry This regiment was organized at Indianapolis, Ind., and mustered in for 6 months' service August 13, 1863. Moved to Nicholasville, Ky., September 16. Attached to Mahan's 1st Brigade, Willcox's Left Wing Forces, Dept. of the Ohio, to February, 1864. I am mystified as how Dr. Zenas suddenly pops up in an Indianapolis organized regiment, but his tomb reads 115th Indiana.
