Hello Group: I am searching for info on the above families. My g.g.g grandfather Thomas Langwill/Langrell is listed in the 1830 Putnam County, Indiana, census as Thomas Langill on Page 189. Nearby is Joel Dobs (Dobbs) who was probably the son-in-law of Thomas. In 1831 Mary (Polly) Langwell (age 15 to 20 in the census record) married a Daniel Smith in Putnam County. Dora Mae Turner found information that Joel and Elizabeth Dobbs and a "Polly" Langwell became members of the Deer Creek Baptist Church in Putnam County c. 1830. Then there was a Daniel Smith on the 1840 Putnam County census with an older female, who may have been my g.g.g. grandmother Anna Bastin Langwill. Thomas is supposed to have died in 1839 and Anna in 1842. I have no documentation of these death dates, nor does anyone seem to know where the deaths occurred. At this point, I believe they both died in Putnam County and I am looking for cemetery records that might verify my speculation. While looking at the cemeteries in Putnam County, I found many, many Ruarks and then a history of some members of that family. Timothy Longwell/Langwill married Mary Ruark in Caswell County, N.C. in 1811. That family moved to Pulasky County, Kentucky, c. 1815, then on to Green and/or Triggs County (from memory), Kentucky and on to Sangamon County, Illinois, by 1840. I believe the Putnam County, Indiana, family was related to Mary Ruark in some way, but I do not know how. I do know there was a Peter and Timothy Ruark in Pulasky County, Ky. while the Langwill family lived there and Timothy Langwill was bondsman or witness to a Ruark marriage, but I don't remember if it was in N.C. or Ky. and am not sure of the name of the bride and groom. Would really like to know more about Mary Ruark and Daniel Smith and of course any of the other surnames listed. Will gladly share any info I have. In the 1850 transcribed Putnam County Census I found a couple of Bostins (Bastins) some Bowmans (related to the Langwell and Waters/Walters families) and many Ruarks. No Langwells, or anything close.
