    1. NEWTON, espec. Thomas J. Newton, b. abt 1845
    2. Laura Ellen Mitchell
    3. Thomas J. Newton, born about 1845, was the son of Thomas J. Newton. He was a Civil War veteran, and the first husband of my great-grandmother, Annie Elizabeth Kendall. They were married May 22, 1867 by B.H. Bradsbury. Her parents, the Kendall's, were a Putnam county family from New Maysville. Thomas died in Putnam county Dec. 26, 1867 according to an affidavit I have that was done by my great-grandparents when they were elderly. As you can see, Thomas and Annie were only married a matter of months. I have been unable to determine where Thomas is buried. Yesterday, in a visit to Putnam County Public Library, I made it through part of the cemetery records. However, they are kept in closed stacks, and you have to ask for specific books, so he is either not in them, or in some I haven't yet seen. Perhaps another descendant knows this answer. It appeared to me that his parents were fairly wealthy, so I'm thinking he would have had a stone, or at least a record of where buried. Annie next married Rev. Thomas B. Ashbaugh, in Putnam County, and he died in Owen County when they had been married not quite a year. Her third husband, whom she also married in Putnam County, was John C. Criss, born in Owen County, and living at the time of marriage in Clay County. They were married many years.
