First I would like to thank everyone who gave me clues on where to visit in Indiana. My wife and I spent last week researching the descendants of Richard Wright of Rowan county. Everyone we met on the trip couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. We first visited the Greencastle, Putnam County Library. They had indexed births, deaths and marriages after 1882. We also found "Pre-1882 Indiana Births from Secondary Sources" by Slater-Putt. Unfortunately, after 4 hours, my laptop power source died so I copied numerous sources. They have the Boatright files which includes many of the families of interest. I did not get over to Depauw University which has Obituaries. We used the following link to get land patents for Amos Wright and James Stewart, my wife's 2nd and third great-grandparents. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/logon/logon.asp With this info and help from people from the Putnam County Courthouse, we visited where they lived. Next went to Salem, Washington County Historical Society. They have a wonderful museum and more information than we could absorb in one day, especially without my database. Bought some more cemetery books and "The History and Genealogy of Israel Hind, Sr." by Sullivan which is very well written giving accounts of life in the early days and includes Wright and Hinds genealogy. They also have a great set of Wright and associated files which I copied a lot of information from. Recommend you stay at the bed and breakfast, which they own, if you go there. I need to go back for a full week! Fixed my computer with great help from Compusa and then went to Allen County Library. Spent a day and a half there, could have spent a week. It is second only to LDS, SLC for genealogy information. Everything is well indexed and they had books that I have found nowhere else, including the Library of congress.
