I get a lot of questions about the Ruark family off of my website, which just shows my own family. I get so many about other Ruark families that I've begun a new website, dedicated to any Ruark family. Here's the address: www.dancris.com/~phelps/index.html . The families are all organized by location: county and state. If you have a Ruark family that's not shown, of if you have additional info I don't have, please e-mail me and I'll put it up. Please note that this site is just beginning, and is still in development, so it's still a bit unpolished. My first concern was getting the data out there, the bells and whistles can be added on later. Also coming soon will be an index for the site. One of the few Ruark families I know of that I don't have represented there is the family of Jean Jones. Jean, since you already have such a great website, I'm planning on simply linking to it, rather than duplicating all that typing, if that's all right with you. Some feel that Ruark is simply a misspelling of Roark, but there are many families out there who use the Ruark name exclusively. My goal is to put as much information as possible about them onto the web. Thank you, Jim Phelps Phelps@dancris.com Researching the Ruark family from Pulaski County, KY, Putnam County, IN, and Wayne County, IA.

Hello List. I just joined the list and am looking for information about the Lewis family from Floyd Twp. Putnam Co. To be specific I am looking for information about Jeremiah Lewis b. 1838. His father was Abraham Lewis and mother was Lucretia. Jeremiah was my great grandfather. He grew up and married in Indiana. He married and had 2 children with his first wife. I suspect he served in the Civil War. He then traveled to SalisburyTwp. Lehigh Co. Pa. He married again to Ellen J. They had 6 children, one of whom was Emma Jane, my grandmother. I seem to know a lot about him, but I really do not. For instance I do not know his mothers maiden name. There are more unanswered questions. Any help or information I receive will be greatly appreciated. Anna in AZ.

I'm looking for information on the above-named ARON (this is the correct spelling on the Census Listing) MANFORD family. My great-grandfather, JOHN C. JEFRY, lived in their home as of the 1860 Putnam County Federal Census. I quote from that Census: <<JOHN C. JEFRY (Birth). JOHN JEFRY is listed as a seven-year-old white male in the family of Aron Manford, age 52 white male, and Nancy Manford, age 41 white female, along with ROLLIN MANFORD, age 19, white male. Mr. Manford is listed as "Farm Renter 1" and birthplace of Ky. Nancy is listed as birthplace Va. Rollin as birthplace, Ind., and John Jefry, the same. William Foster, age 82 male, is listed as "Farmer 1" with birthplace "M.D." Mary Foster is listed as 76 female, no birthplace mentioned.]>> My only information on this great-grandfather follows: << John C. JEFRY was born between 1856 and 1859 in Indiana. He died on 22 Jul 1899 in Urbana, Ohio. John worked as night watchman for a factory which had recently moved to Urbana, Ohio from Roachdale, Indiana. He had become quite depressed and was off from work for a few days. When he returned he seemed more content, but that night he took his own life by gunshot. He was buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greencastle, Indiana. He was married to Sirrilda Elizabeth LANE (daughter of John Thomas LANE and Angeline C. SIDDENS) on 5 Jan 1876 in Greencastle, Indiana. They were married by J.W. Hanna, Minister. Sirrilda Elizabeth LANE was born on 10 Jun 1860 in Bainbridge, Monroe Township, Putnam County, Indiana. She died on 12 Jan 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana.>> All help will be most deeply appreciated. I've searched 16 years for the forebears of JOHN C JEFRY, and have not found ANYTHING. He does state his parents were born in Indiana in a subsequent Census! Carleene Jefry Hubbard
Good morning, Last week while I was out of town, a co-worker of my daughter's tried to help me out by installing an additional 1.2 Gb Hard drive that I hadn't had time to install. I'm not sure whether it was a case of murder or accidental homicide but he messed it up big time. Apparently when the computer would not recognize the existence of the second drive he tried using a recovery disk and reinstalled Windows. The only problem was that apparently a low-level reformat was done on the hard drive and suddenly there was nothing there but the factory-installed software. No saved mailing list messages, no web pages, nothing! I was furious to say the least and spent all day Saturday trying to recover my data (I hadn't bought a tape back up yet either). Okay, my fault but thought you ought to know the situation. Luckily, I guess, for the past two weeks I've been on the road as you all know. When I'm away from home I use the govt supplied notebook to receive e-mail. I then save to a floppy disk and erase the original message (I'm not supposed to use the machine for personal purposes). What does this mean in the long run? Well, I have lost some unposted web pages I was working on and I'm having to reconstruct my current year finances (luckily I had backed that up in August) but I think we will be okay. As best I can tell, the loss of the data is not going to affect the web pages. The web sites are OKAY! I can download them from the web in order to have the pages to modify, correct, whatever. It simply means it will take me a while to get some new material on the sites as I will have to recreate some things. The installer ... oh, he's all right even if I did commit murderous acts to his being in my mind. Keep smiling and stay well while I get this thing up and running again. Sharon Footnote: This is a brand new machine and with it came manuals (on-line) which I had not had a reason to look at. Lo and behold! Complete instructions for installing additional drives to the machine (with pictures, no less). So I am going to TAKE the time to do this myself. I hope you all have a good week. It's looks like Santa is going to bring me a tape backup as an early Christmas present. :) :)

hi, i am looking for members of the la follette family. i am trying to trace my branch of the family back to john lefollet. i believe i am closely related to robert marion la follette, the senator from wisconsin. but i can only get as far back as my great grandfather whose name is sherwood nimrod la follette. he came to california from oregon. he would have been born around 1900 ( i came up with that date by subtracting 20 years for each generation, so it may be much earlier than that.) thank you, paige
I have in my personal library a couple of Putnam Co. Indiana reference sources and would be happy to do "look-ups" for anyone interested. Sharon, if you wish to put these on the website for future look-ups, go ahead and add these. 1) RECORDS OF POPLAR SPRING CHURCH 1829 to 1880 (contains lists of members, when joined, how joined, and in some cases where they came from prior. There are also a few marriages and deaths and misc. information. Not indexed but only containing 16 pages) Poplar Spring Presbyterian Church was near Bainbridge and later became the Bainbridge Presbyterian Church. 2) TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE PEARCY CEMETERY near Bainbridge (copied Sept. 30, 1974 by Mr. & Mrs. Leon Snyder and Mrs. Virginia D. Brann) (There are 76 grave sites represented) Charles P. Phillips

Hi everyone, So that no one will become impatient with not seeing their surnames on the web page immediately, I must explain the situation. I am in Philadelphia for two weeks teaching a class. I will be home after 6 Nov. When I get home I have four days to do some necessary gardening, etc. prior to having surgery on the 11th. The computer I am using right now is a notebook which does not have the webpage software installed on it. Boss's machine, you understand. I am however saving all requests, messages, subscriptions, etc. to floppy disks and will take care of your requests as soon as I can. Thanks for your understanding. Sharon
Dear Sharon: You have gotten me so excited that I may not be able to sleep tonight!!! I wish I did not have to go out this evening or I would stay home and give you the documentation you seek on Narcissa and Amanda Ellen. If I am not totally exhausted when I get home, I will do it anyway. If not, I will get to it first thing the the morning, that is IF I can sleep!!!!! I knew nothing about Maria's second marriage!!! This explains WHY I could not find them after 1830 census! I have a xeroxed copy of the Records of the Poplar Springs Church begun in 1832. Poplar Spring Presbyterian Church later became known as Bainbridge. Charles Phillips
