Hi, I have received donations/memberships/whatever from the following people: Carleene Hubard Patricia Obrist Judy Gordon Anybody else? Look, if you don't know what Rootsweb is all about I'd like for you take a couple of minutes while you're logged on and read the information that they have on their homepage. http://www.rootsweb.com Please support their efforts to keep access to genealogy records free. Thanks, Sharon
It snowed in southeastern Virginia today. Not a lot and it didn't stick to the ground but it was the first time my 3-year-old grandson had seen snow, except in pictures and on TV. Nothing new to y'all I'm sure but I see the world differently when I'm looking through his eyes. However, it was my rheumy old eyes that posted the first 20 pages of the Fillmore Cemetery records. Only 15 more to go and it will be complete. Just wanted to let you know. Sharon Bryant
Hi, There are now five cemeteries uploaded on the website: Bethel/Knauer; Mt. Carmel and part of Fillmore; Clear Creek; and Palestine. Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night. Sharon

I have a picture of a large group of men celebrating a reunion, makes me think it might be the American Legion-Would like help in identifying, will send a copy for use in this effort. They were in Putnam Co. Indiana, (possibly Greencastle). I would appreciate this help. Thank you. Kitty Beck<Shatara@cei.net>
Hi folks, For the past month or so I have been subscribed to a list called GENMTD-L (or D, if you prefer). This group is concerned with helping each other learn the best way to do research; you know, those little tips of the trade? It might be worthwhile to sign on with them for awhile if you're having a research problem. Just thought I'd pass along the address for what appears to be a real good list. Have a good one, Sharon

Hi, Does anyone out there have a microfilm reader and a computer available to them? Do you have time on your hands or are you looking for a worthwhile project? I have the census records for Putnam County from 1850 to 1910 on microfilm and would love to have them transcribed to post on the Putnam Co. page. I just don't have the time. I would be willing to pay postage to you and back to me in order to get these items tran-scribed. I do not want to send more than one reel of microfilm out at a time to one individual. But would be willing if there might be more than one volunteer to send a roll to each of you. I know that the records we're posting to the county page are being archived by the state project. Any takers? Reply and we'll work out the details. Sharon

I don't like sending out requests for money but this is for a very good cause. Every time you log on to the Putnam website, you are there through the good graces of Brian and Karen Isaacson Leverich, a husband and wife team who started Rootsweb at their own personal expense. They have offered space to the USGENWEB project as well as all 50 state projects. Recently they established guidelines for personal web space on Rootsweb opening the way for many non-organizational web sites. Several months ago they gained a commercial sponsor - Palladium - a small but very well respected company dealing in genealogy software. Palladium has since been bought out by Broderbund - a much larger company with a not so great reputation. Broderbund has not yet made the payment for December that Palladium had agreed to in the initial agreement. Brian and Karen have taken out a personal loan of $25,000 to keep Rootsweb afloat. So, I'm not asking anyone to send their life savings to Brian and Karen. What I am asking is this: If you go to the webpage for Putnam Co. or use the Roots surname lists, or subscribe to a mailing list (like THIS one), would you/could you please put Rootsweb on your end of the year donation list? Twelve dollars is all it takes to be a member of the Rootsweb Genealogical Data Cooperative. One lousy little dollar a month -- what would it have cost you to gain the information from a researcher that you found on Rootsweb? If you would like I would be willing to collect contributions and send them in all at once as a donation from Putnam Co., INGENWEB. Make checks out to Rootsweb, not me! Mail to Sharon Bryant, 518 West Little Creek Road, Norfolk, VA 23505-3345. Thanks. Let's keep Rootsweb going and growing. Sharon
Hello: The Clear Creek cemetery records have been posted. The Mt. Carmel cemetery records have been posted. I am 1/3 of the way through 35 pages of Fillmore Cemetery records. If anyone has cemetery records that they would like posted, even if you don't have the entire cemetery, please send them to me in a text file as either the body of an email or as an attachment directly to me. SharonBryant@worldnet.att.net. Thanks. Sharon
Just wanted to let you know what is going on with Rootsweb - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >>Hi, listowners -- This announcement is to let you know that we've just finished "closing" all of the RootsWeb lists. This means that the list server will only let you post to a mailing list if you subscribe to it. I'm sorry that this had to be done so hastily, but we didn't really have any choice. The volume of spam that was being sent through our lists had reached a phenomenal level, and I was spending most of my time on that problem rather than improving the systems. Worse, some users had begun to send spam complaints to sites that were completely unrelated to RootsWeb, but could kill our network connection if they received too many complaints. Closing the lists to subscribers became a matter of self-preservation. However, in order to make it easier on you, we've changed things to make it a little more obvious when someone who isn't a subscriber posts to your list. The list server will add the words "{not a subscriber}" to the Subject heading of their message, like this: Subject: {not a subscriber} Ancestors of John BROWN?<< How is this going to effect us? Well, it will keep people from posting a question(s) without first subscribing to the mail list. But that is such an easy proposition to deal with. Other than that we'll just have to wait and see. Sharon

Hi, The Putnam Co. Marriage Index says that an Emma Bailey married a Joel L. Miller, 30, 1887, Putnam Co., IN I also checked the birth index but found no children listed to these two people in Putnam Co.
