    1. KIMBERLIN
    2. Edward A. Scriven
    3. I am wondering if anyone can help us find some information about some people in the KIMBERLIN family who lived in this county at one time. We are particularly interested in finding the birth of Nancy KIMBERLIN, although it may yet turn out that she was born in another county, and then the family moved to Putnam County. Anyway, here is what we know. On the 1840 Census the family is listed under Tabitha KIMBERLIN, widow. Nancy was born 29 Nov 1837, but we don't KNOW that it was in Putnam County, and we don't know who her father was. Tabitha died in 1844, and her will probated on 14 Oct 1844 also listed 2 other daughters, Mary and Elizabeth. The children were put under the guardianship of David GORDON. On the 1840 Census Tabitha is listed as neighbor to several GORDON families. We wonder if they were JUST NEIGHBORS, or if they were FAMILY. I really wonder if GORDON was her maiden name. I don't know what death records exist in the area, but I would like to see if we could locate the death/burial/obituary/whatever for the father to find out his name. Any additional information, such as an obituary, or cemetery or death record on Tabitha might help, too. Apparently many of the GORDON family went to Peoria, Illinois, and Nancy went as well. She is there on the 1860 Census with a different GORDON family. Also in the same household as a worker or servant or whatever is Levi SCRIVEN, my great great granduncle. Nancy and Levi then married in Peoria on 7 Feb 1861. They eventually lived in Fairbury, Nebraska, where she died on 11 Jul 1923, at the age of 85. If anyone has any information that can shed some light on Nancy's birth and parents, please contact me. Thanks, Ed Scriven Layton, UT

    3. If there is, I'd like to see one. I walked all over that cemetery looking for the grave of my grand-mother's sister. Found her in-laws, but never found her. 2. Margaret McHaffie and James Goodwin married in 1855 presumably in the Cloverdale area. The presiding minister's name appears to be Ransom Hawley. Can anyone tell me what church he may have been affiliated with, or any other possible name variations for a minister named Ransom in the Cloverdale area around 1855? Thanks, Lori Loria1001@aol.com

    3. Hi everyone, We're safe and dry. I decided not to leave when they did not begin mandatory evacuations. There are basically only two ways out of this town--one by the Hampton Roads Bay Bridge and Tunnel and the other that takes you through small towns on a 2-lane highway towards Richmond. I didn't see any viable options. Oh, there is a third way--across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel which takes you to the DelMarVa peninsula. But that thing is 18 miles long over the Chesapeake Bay and I don't like it on a sunny day. Just wanted you to know we made it okay. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts. Sharon

    1. McNORTON
    2. Rootlisters, I am looking for information on Austin McNorton b. 1805 in SC, and his son, George, b. 1849 in Putnam County, IN. Are there 1855 and 1865 censuses for Indiana? In particular I would like to know of any McNortons in Putnam or Montgomery County in 1865 and 1870. In the 1850 Census, September 9th, George is listed as 8 months old, in Jackson TWP. Putnam County, Indiana. This makes it appear that April 2, is a baptism or christening, not his birth date. In the 1860 (June 1st) census George is listed as 10 Years old in Clarke TWP, Montgomery County, IN. George is in Grasshopper Falls, KS, PO Oskaloosa, in the 1870 Census Robert Leopard

    3. I'm sure you've all been keeping track of Floyd. Well, it kind of looks like he's headed my way (for those of you who don't know I live in Norfolk, VA). The Navy has declared a Condition 3 which means damaging winds within 48 hours. I just wanted to let you know that depending on what God wants Floyd to do, I may evacuate. I'll back up what I have on the computer but everything else will stay because there's too much of it to pack up and haul with me. I hope you all have copies. For the rest of you who live on the East Coast and may have this unwelcome guest, be safe and God bless. Sharon
