    1. James R. Farris (Faries)
    2. Ruth Miller
    3. My g-g-grandfather, James R Faries (Farris) was born about 1835 in (Putnam County) Cloverdale, IN. His father was John Faries/mother Nancy Hadden Faries. He married Mary Jane Smith and had four children: Frank, William, Mattie, Mary Elizabeth and Belle. His gravestone is at Cloverdale cemetery and his name is spelled "Farris." According to the stone he was in Co. H. 133rd Ind. Inf which led me to believe he was killed in the Civil War. However, the 133rd Ind Inf was a group of volunteers from Vigo County and lost no men in battle. Could someone look up his death for me. Thanks so much. Ruth Miller 01ramiller@bsuvc.bsu.edu

    1. Circulating Virus
    2. Sharon Bryant
    3. Listen up, folks. There is a virus called PrettyPark which is going through systems like crazy. It generally shows up as an attachment. DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT. If you open it, it will then send itself to everyone in the email address book. That acts like spam and will sooner or later jam up the airwaves. I have received two apologies and one actual message with virus attached in the past two weeks. I have deleted all without opening and do not seem to be having any problems. Heads up is better than the grief this will cause you. Sharon

    3. Are there any old books that describe Putnam County in the old days such as pictures of the town of Greencastle in the 1860's and 70's....when photography was new? It would be so nice to see where our ancestors lived....make it come alive for us. So many of mine lived in Greencastle .... some stayed and other members of the family migrated to Iowa. Any help appreciated. I can accept scanned images ... prefer JPEG if possible. Thanks, Jan

    1. Noah LEE family of Marion Twp
    2. Brad Hurley
    3. Mary, Janette Lager was kind enough to perform a lookup in the 1887 book "History of Putnam County", and excerpted the following information for me: There is the following biography on page 508 "Noah Lee, deceased, late of Marion Township, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, April 13, 1812, son of Charles and Nica Lee. He was reared to farm life in his native county and received a rudimentary education in the early subscription schools of his time. He was married March 22, 1836 to Miss Elizabeth Gasteneau, who was born March 28, 1815 in Pulaski County, and her parents were Joab and Sallie Gasteneau. Mr. Lee removed to Illinois about 1850, living in Champaign County about two years. He then removed to Marion Township, this county where he lived until his decease which occurred about twenty five years ago. He was the father of seven children, three of whom are living Harvey, Catherine wife of John Phipps of Missouri, and James W. Mrs. Lee resides on the home farm, where she owns 162 acres of land, in a good state of cultivation. Mr. Lee was Democrat in politics, and a member of the Regular Baptist Church, and served as deacon of that church. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and an obliging neighbor. In his demise Putnam county lost one of her most useful citizens" I have done some cursory investigation of the Charles LEE family of Pulaski County Kentucky, and have not been able to trace the LEE surname any further backwards. My line of LEE's goes back from Olive May LEE, born 1882 to James W. LEE and Anna Elizabeth BUNTEN/BUNTON. James W. LEE and Anna Elizabeth BUNTON were married in 1880 in Putnam County IN. Anna died in 1894 in Putnam County, and I believe that James W. LEE moved to Marion County IN at that time. I am trying to tie Marion County records about James W. LEE back to his family in Putnam County. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mstwrt@aol.com> To: <INPUTNAM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 20, 2000 3:42 PM Subject: (no subject) > Lee Connection-- I am interested in your Noah Lee do you have any other > information on him as to his parents and where he came from???
