    1. need some help with terms
    2. Debbie Carter
    3. I have a question concerning terms of description. In the old church minutes or records, when someone is referred to as a Messenger is that a deacon or something of that nature? In the instance I am looking at there are also 3-4 listed so I would assume they are not ministers and some of them change occassionally but for the most part are some of the same base persons. Also, when someone is received into the church by letter what exactly does this mean? I had always assumed it meant transferring from another church to a new one with a letter of reference, but I am seeing mention of persons who have letters but are not turning them into the church-as if they moved to the new church district but refused to join the new church. Any help is much appreciated. Debra Carter tara37@comsys.net

    3. Lynn, I don't know your Cynthia THORNBURGH, but I have ancestors and know of others who do, where the earlier one lived in Randolph Co., NC and migrated to Putnam Co., IN. There is an example in the file below from my database. (I am a LEDWELL desc., thus this file. 3. Hello everyone, It has been a rough four weeks that I have been at home. I came down with a cold that began to sound like the pneumonia I had last summer. It seems to be okay now but the sinuses are going nuts with all the lovely spring things in the air. I, of course, can not stay out of my flower beds which is not helping matters but I live to see my flowers bloom so I enjoy them as much as I can. I've also had my upper teeth pulled and due to a lack of time for fittings etc., and my job which requires me to enunciate carefully the new plate was put into place just after the pulling. My mouth is extremely sore - think bear with a toothache. Doing what I can to endure this. I am also on my way out of town on Monday 4/3 for basically six weeks. I am in Maryland for two weeks, come home, and then fly out to Philadelphia for two weeks and then straight to Pittsburgh for two weeks. I'll be teaching two different classes while I'm on the road and I have been trying to make sure that all of my lesson plans are updated, etc. In other words, besides the health problems I have been extremely busy. I apologize for not having any more time than I have had to update the websites. Hope you will bear with me. I'm hoping to get some things done this weekend. I think I have figured out how to have my email forwarded automatically from this machine to the one that I travel with (a work computer). But please understand that I will not have any reference materials with me and won't be able to answer general or, for that matter, specific questions. Have a good Spring Sharon

    1. Dr. John W. Mahorney
    2. Has anyone come across the name Dr. John W. MAHORNEY on death certificates in that area? I know he was close by and suspect he might have signed off on some deaths. He started practicing in 1884 and died between 1891 and 1893. His first practice was in Little Point, Adams Twp., in Morgan Co, when he was married to Mary E. Smith. Does anyone know if there is a directory of physicians at that time? Most of the ones I've seen start around 1900. Priscilla Normandy Greenwood conselyea@aol.com FISCUS, MAHORNEY, SMITH, GREENWOOD

    1. Roots Celler
    2. Hi Norma, Saw your infor about the free search on Roots Celler-- don't know if I am doing something wrong but they would not do anything unless I had the Name, a full date (ie day, month & year) County and State. On most of my brick walls I may have the year but not the day & month, and I have the city for some but not the county so they wouldn't accept the search. On the simple search I got connection timed out. Is this the way it normally works or am I doing domething wrong??? Thanks Mary
