Does anyone know who I might contact regarding the old church records of the Long Branch Church there in Putnam county? Debra Carter tara37@comsys.net
I am passing the following along. It is a snip of an email posted on the Indiana-L list and I thought it might be of interest to someone. I post this with permission of Mr. Sam Cline. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~insert~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ County boundary changes can be very important in determining where our ancestors > located. For instance, present day Morgan County is not the original Morgan > County. Land west of Mill Creek was transferred by the Indiana Legislature to > Putnam County and several sections of land in the northern part of the original > Morgan County were transferred to Hendricks County. If you are searching for > records for your ancestors in Putnam and Hendricks Counties and find none--the > records they left behind may very well be recorded in Morgan County. Also, > prior to the creation of Morgan County the area now included in Morgan County > was attached to Monroe County for legal and civil purposes. Debra Carter tara37@comsys.net

If anyone is digging through their information on Russellville Cemetery, perhaps you could help me with John W. Murphy. The book Putnam County History, Indiana Sesquicentennial 1966 lists veterans of various wars, and the cemeteries in which they are buried. John W. Murphy is included for Russellville. When I read the LDS microfilm on Putnam County Cemeteries however, John was not to be found. I believe he married Sarah Annis Fry in Hendricks County in 1865; in 1870 she is living in Putnam County, and is widowed. Any help with this would be most appreciated. Carol

I have just updated my Richard Wright of Rowan County, NC web page to rev 11 containing 19,552 people including 18,638 direct descendants. Names include Allen, Colglazier, Cooley, Gilstrap, Goss, Hazel, Hill, Hinds, Johnson, Marshall, Martin, Monical, Morgan, Moss, Mullenix, Parrish, Purlee, Ratts, Wright and Zink. Most of these families emigrated to Indiana, then to Illinois, , Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. The major update is the use of the SSDI and Pierce and Salem, Washington county, Indiana cemetery books to list death dates, burial sites and residences. Much of the information that was listed as 'private' is now available since death dates are included. further, close relatives have been included. I have also updated data based upon the Frederick Goss book and a number of inputs from correspondents. For details, click on the Rev no. at the top of the page. More to come!!
