    1. Whitted
    2. Hi everyone, I understand that there were Whitted families in Putnam Co. IN and I am trying to make a connection between them and the Lawrence Co. IN Whitteds. My line was from Hillsboro N.C. back to 1702. My John Whitted b. Nov.22,1779 Hillsboro N.C. married Ruth Allen June 3,1803. Thier son John Jr. b. July 11,1814 in L.C. He married Rosana Cummings July 28,1839. Their daughter Eliza b. Dec. 2,1857 married Thomas Thornton Thompson b. Oct.11,1860 on April 7,1892. Their son John Wesley Thompson b. March 28,1893. He married Edith Viola Swafford Sept.19,1912 in L.C. According to records this Whitted lines from N.C. some came to Indiana others went to Tenn.etc. I would be interested in talking with anyone who might have the information in N.C. It`s alright to e-mail me personally.Thank You, Lisa Reuban16@webtv.net

    1. LANGWILL, DOBBS, BASTIN, BROCKMAN, RUARK, SMITH
    2. Hello Group: I am searching for info on the above families. My g.g.g grandfather Thomas Langwill/Langrell is listed in the 1830 Putnam County, Indiana, census as Thomas Langill on Page 189. Nearby is Joel Dobs (Dobbs) who was probably the son-in-law of Thomas. In 1831 Mary (Polly) Langwell (age 15 to 20 in the census record) married a Daniel Smith in Putnam County. Dora Mae Turner found information that Joel and Elizabeth Dobbs and a "Polly" Langwell became members of the Deer Creek Baptist Church in Putnam County c. 1830. Then there was a Daniel Smith on the 1840 Putnam County census with an older female, who may have been my g.g.g. grandmother Anna Bastin Langwill. Thomas is supposed to have died in 1839 and Anna in 1842. I have no documentation of these death dates, nor does anyone seem to know where the deaths occurred. At this point, I believe they both died in Putnam County and I am looking for cemetery records that might verify my speculation. While looking at the cemeteries in Putnam County, I found many, many Ruarks and then a history of some members of that family. Timothy Longwell/Langwill married Mary Ruark in Caswell County, N.C. in 1811. That family moved to Pulasky County, Kentucky, c. 1815, then on to Green and/or Triggs County (from memory), Kentucky and on to Sangamon County, Illinois, by 1840. I believe the Putnam County, Indiana, family was related to Mary Ruark in some way, but I do not know how. I do know there was a Peter and Timothy Ruark in Pulasky County, Ky. while the Langwill family lived there and Timothy Langwill was bondsman or witness to a Ruark marriage, but I don't remember if it was in N.C. or Ky. and am not sure of the name of the bride and groom. Would really like to know more about Mary Ruark and Daniel Smith and of course any of the other surnames listed. Will gladly share any info I have. In the 1850 transcribed Putnam County Census I found a couple of Bostins (Bastins) some Bowmans (related to the Langwell and Waters/Walters families) and many Ruarks. No Langwells, or anything close. 2. Sharon Bryant
    3. Folks, I'm sorry to have to do this but yesterday I received two messages from a lady named Phyllis Boyd Gauss. She was requesting that her surnames be entered into the researchers lists. I did this but the reason I am writing is that her email came in with the kak worm attached. My software caught it. It could not eliminate it but it did quarantine it so that my computer was NOT infected. I sent her a message thinking that she was not aware of the worm as it does not affect the host computer only sends itself out attached to every email message sent from that computer. I received a return message telling me that she had been told previously that she was sending out the worm but that she had two virus detecters and they both told her there was no virus in her machine. She indicated that she wasn't having any problems except that everyone kept telling her that she was sending out the worm along with her emails. This morning I found a return email from her in my inbox. My computer caught it again and when the message was opened there was absolutely NOTHING in her message. I'm not sure why she sent another email to me but I felt that in all good conscience I could not let one of you unsuspectingly enter into a series of emails with an infected computer. Please be very careful. Thank you, Sharon

    3. Hello listers, I have started a new page on the website "Surname Index to Cemeteries." This is a work in PROGRESS. It is not complete. I hope that this will assist you in looking up burials on the various cemetery pages. I have also posted Cloverdale, section 1. Cloverdale, section 2 is in progress but this time I am indexing the surnames as I go instead of having to go back and generate the index. I have other cemetery listings to transcribe and post but this all a very time consuming proposition. If you will be patient with me, I will get them posted. I have also received very nice response to my request for transcribers of the Birth and Death Records. By clicking on birth and death records you will be able to see which ones have been assigned for transcriptions. The letter "L" has now been completed and returned to me. It will take a while to convert the data to HTML and get it posted. Life is a little hectic right now. I have new course material for both courses that I teach and must build my notes for lectures. I am also engaged in an on-line Master of Distance Education program through the University of Maryland with the new semester beginning next week. I am scheduled for surgery on 7 Sep. Nothing major but must be done. So if you will bear with me, I will continue working, with your assistance, towards making the INPutnam GenWeb site one of the best in the state. Sharon

    3. I accessed some records (but they are sparce) and did so at the Indiana State Archives. They are not categorized or catalogued. In fact, I was literally the first person to sift through the boxes since they were transferred from Putnam County to the State Archives in the 50's. I did, however, find a few little jems. 3. Is anyone on this list researching ROGERS/MCCOY/JEWELL surnames? I am also researching any connections to the ESKEW/CROSSON/BONHAM/FISHELL surnames. These were located in the GREENE/SULLIVAN/CLAY and possibly CASS or PUTNAM county areas in the late 1800's and early 1900's. If there is anyone else researching any of the names pls contact me at: anatet@claynet.com. Thank you, Sheri Searching for: TETIDRICK/POTTS/HARNESS/TARPLEY, SWEETEN/MOORE/CORDELL, PIGG/VICE/GOFF/GARDNER/LEMMON/OLIVER/HART/MORGAN/OWENS, AKERS/MCCOY/MCCREARY/ROGERS/JEWELL and any other associated links :))

    3. Hello Listers, I am trying to knock down a brick wall. I am searching for an obituary on Mary Nancy Orchid Williams who died in Putnam County in approximately 1867, per her son's, Douglas Steven Williams obituary. Mary (could be Nancy Mary) was married to John George Williams who was reportedly a shop keeper in Greencastle. Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. 3. Dear Listers: Seeking Obituary for: Anne Elizabeth Frances (Moss) Fowler, b 1826 VA, d 3 Jul 1912 in or near Cloverdale, Putnam Co IN. She was wife of Nathan Ward Fowler and mother of 12 children. I have death certificate which has missing info. Have been trying for parentage, exact birthplace, and sibling ID for 12 years now. Was told that likely location of said obituary might be the Roy West library at DePauw University. Would be greatful for a look-up if possible. Thank you.
