    2. I am descended from William Burke RAMSAY, b. 1795 at Mason County, KY, and d. 1876 in Putnam County, IN. William married Elizabeth McANULTY in 1820 in KY and they moved to Portland Mills, IN, ca. 1826. I have looked at the LDS IGI in depth and have that info. I have plenty of info on William Burke RAMSAY. I am curious about William's brothers and sisters (and parents). Any relatives out there? Alice J. 3. The Bureau of Land Management can be found at this site: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/search.asp?s=9 Choose the state of Indiana and enter your ancestors name and see what turns up. You can actually see the "original" copy of the land record here. I have been luck and found middle names for my ancestors which I didn't even know they had....but it was on the land records. You can check the land records in 30 states at this site. Have fun and be sure to "bookmark" the page because you'll want to go back again and again!!!! Good luck! 1. Does this belong to your family?
    2. Sharon Bryant
    3. I found this in the latest issue of Missing Links (vol. 5, no. 34). "More than 20 years ago, I purchased in Marshall, Texas, an old Singer sewing machine base that had a heavy, granite top on it. I took it with me when I moved 17 miles north to Jefferson, Texas. A few years ago, however, I wanted to use the base for something else and had my husband remove the top. It was a tombstone with a name and dates. I tried to locate the cemetery from which it came by going through Texas death records, looking in nearby Louisiana, and advertising in a genealogy column in the DALLAS (Texas) MORNING NEWS and the SHREVEPORT TIMES, all with no success. I will be happy to make arrangements to give it to the family to whom it belongs. The stone says: E. N. WRIGHT Aug. 11, 1849 - Jan. 27, 1923. TxStarmt@aol.com "

    3. Herb, Please go to the recorder's office on the second floor of the courthouse. There you will find the index books on microfilm. Check for James Stewart I would recommend looking for a land sale when he left Indiana) and once you find it take the coordinates to the fourth floor to Nancy Clifford in the County Surveyor's office. She can either help you with the location on the county plat maps or will be able to direct you to the proper location for that information. 3. Angel, I have a little on Henry P. BAILEY and Susan. {I recommend you contanct the other Landes researcher. I was looking for BAILEY info. Pat Bishop Obrist} Descendants of Henry P. Bailey Generation No. 1 1. HENRY P.1 BAILEY was born Abt. 1809 in VA. He married SUSANNA LANDES1 18 November 1838 in Putnam Co, IN (license). Notes for HENRY P. BAILEY: From: Claudine <claudie808@effingham.net> To: <iobrist@mail.win.org> Date: March 28, 1999 Subject: Bailey I'm not related to Bailey, but in reading for someone else, I noticed a lot of similarities of Henry P. Bailey here in Effingham County, Illinois, to the Baileys you mention in Putnam Co, Ind. This is in the 1910 History of Effingham County, Illinois. I will quote briefly-- William H. Bailey born Jan 18, 1847 in Putnam Co, Ind, son of Henry P. and Susan Landreth Bailey and the grandson of a Revolutionary Soldier who served under Washington and died in Virginia. Henry P was born in VA in 1809 and came with his parents to Ind as a young man, alread a blacksmith. He lived with his mother in Effingham County, Prior to 1839 he returned to Putnam County and married Susan Landreth also a native of Virginia ... someone else has her last name as Landis. There is more on Henry P and his son William and their families etc. If this is of any interest to you, send a SASE and 30cents and I will xerox the pages for you. Apparently lots of people came to Effingham County from Putnam County, my ancestors - Reddings - did. 3. You wrote: "Timothy Langwill was bondsman or witness to a Ruark marriage, but I don't remember if it was in N.C. or Ky. and am not sure of the name of the bride and groom" This was probably Sarah Ruark to James Gibson. (Just guessing) They had a daughter named Mary Gibson, who married George Sutherlin. George and Mary Sutherlin had a daughter Malinda b 1812 who married (first wife) Lewis Sutherlin, Sr. (my family line) in Putnam County, Indiana on 10/12/1836. This Sutherlin was born in Knox County, Kentucky. There was a Rachel Lenora Ruark (1910-1999) who married Roy C. Sutherlin on 12/31/1931 in Putnam County. They are buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The Ruark's have a family tree/genealogy file in the Putnam County Library. Hope this helps.
