I'm researching the family of George SMITH and spouse Mary who were living in Jefferson Twp in 1850. Children included: William R., Martha, Malinda, Pleasant, Beason, Squire, John, and Lewis. George was b. NY abt 1795, and wife Mary b. abt 1800 in NC. The children were all born in Indiana which would mean George SMITH arrived in Indiana by 1826. Searching for death dates and burial location, and any other family information. Thanks for any assistance. Jean
I believe that someone recently asked about Stacy Reeves and wife Sarah Lawrence. Please contact me as I just found a file containing information on their descendants. Thanks, Sharon

First I would like to thank everyone who gave me clues on where to visit in Indiana. My wife and I spent last week researching the descendants of Richard Wright of Rowan county. Everyone we met on the trip couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. We first visited the Greencastle, Putnam County Library. They had indexed births, deaths and marriages after 1882. We also found "Pre-1882 Indiana Births from Secondary Sources" by Slater-Putt. Unfortunately, after 4 hours, my laptop power source died so I copied numerous sources. They have the Boatright files which includes many of the families of interest. I did not get over to Depauw University which has Obituaries. We used the following link to get land patents for Amos Wright and James Stewart, my wife's 2nd and third great-grandparents. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/logon/logon.asp With this info and help from people from the Putnam County Courthouse, we visited where they lived. Next went to Salem, Washington County Historical Society. They have a wonderful museum and more information than we could absorb in one day, especially without my database. Bought some more cemetery books and "The History and Genealogy of Israel Hind, Sr." by Sullivan which is very well written giving accounts of life in the early days and includes Wright and Hinds genealogy. They also have a great set of Wright and associated files which I copied a lot of information from. Recommend you stay at the bed and breakfast, which they own, if you go there. I need to go back for a full week! Fixed my computer with great help from Compusa and then went to Allen County Library. Spent a day and a half there, could have spent a week. It is second only to LDS, SLC for genealogy information. Everything is well indexed and they had books that I have found nowhere else, including the Library of congress. For those of you interested in Genealogy, make the trip!! I'm still trying to find out where Dr. John W. MAHORNEY is buried. He was born January 13, 1857, in Hendricks Co., Franklin Twp., Indiana, and died March 22, 1892, in Freedom, Owen Co., Indiana. The Owen Co. Health Dept. has no death certificate there. There are several articles about his accidental death that pinpoint that date and place. John married Mary E. "Lize" SMITH on October 24, 1883 in Morgan County, Indiana. "Lize" or "Lizzy" was born January 17, 1864, in Morgan Co. She died January 15, 1889, Belle Union, Jefferson Twp, Putnam Co, Indiana. She and their child Roxie are buried in Mt. Tabor, Adams Twp, Morgan Co., Indiana. Their only child, Roxie Bill Mahorney, was born March 29, 1887, in Putnam Co., and died July, 1888, in Belle Union, Putnam Co. Dr. John remarried Martha Ellen FISCUS, my husband's grandmother, on April 30, 1891, in Owen County, Indiana. He does not appear to be buried in the Fiscus cemetery or at Mt. Tabor. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can proceed to find his grave?
Looking for "Dudley Curl" Would appreciate a cemetery transcription search Curl family was in area between 1818 (sat on first grand jury) and 1823 when he leased son John's farm in Monroe County. Apparently moved to several counties with relatives. Was not reported in census 1830. Stan in Seattle
Just new to this list so I hope I am not barging in with an offensive query. I'm searching for connections or information about: Daniel LAY who married Mary Ann WOODALL in Putnam Co, on 05 Jul 1828. I can find Daniel in the 1830 Putnam Census (he, his wife and one male child under 5 who is unknown to me). I also know that Daniel and Mary had a daughter Lucinda, apparently born in Putnam 06 Mar 1838 who is in Iowa when she married in 1874. In the 1830 census, I could also find a Benjamin Woodall (between 70-80 yrs) who could be Mary Ann's father but I don't know that for certain and a Robert Woodall (20-30 years in 1830) who is a possible brother. Does anyone have any info on either the LAY or WOODALL families of about this time frame? Thanks, Bette Kosmolak Victoria BC
