I am researching the line of Joseph HERBERT. He married Mariah HANNA. They were married in New Jersey and migrated to Putnam county IN about 1840. Joseph was born 2-22-1809 and died 2-14-1886 and Mariah was born 11-20-1812 and died 5-1-1890. They were the parents of 11 children and I descend from son Lewis Cass HERBERT who married Mary Ann KNOLL. What I am wanting to find out is a marriage date for Joseph and Mariah. Their first child was born in 1833. I have checked everywhere in NJ and I am hoping that someone else is researching this line that may have found the info. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am researching the following family lines in the Owen county area. I am more then willing to exchange info on any of these lines listed. 1) John CARTER born 1-2-1813 died 2-27-1901 married 1st Eliza NUTTERFIELD (daughter of George); married 2nd Ann SINCLAIR. John and Eliza had 13 children. I descend from: 1) son-Calvin born 8-24-1835 died 9-22-1865 he married Rosella BALDON (daughter of McKinney). Their daughter Elizabeth Jane Carter born 3-3-1855 married John TRUAX(son of James TRUAX & Arlitta (CHAMBERS).Elizabeth Jane (Carter) & John Truax are my 3rd great grandparents. As luck would have it the father of Rosella BALDON is also my 5th great grandfather through other connections. 2) son-Morris born 7-26-1851 died 3-9-1934 he married Susan Mary DUNCAN (b. 10-12-1856) on 10- 15-1873 3) son-Ludwell born 4-3-1837 he married Mary Mahala McCullough (daughter of Wm.). They were married 10-28-1858. His wife was the granddaughter of my 6th great grandfather, which although doesn't make her my 4th great grandmother as I descend directly through one of her aunts in another line. As you can see, any hit on this line will reap benefits. John born in 1813 was also known to have a brother named Jobe who was born in about 1810, he was listed as deaf and dumb on census. John and family was known to have lived in the Owen county area just north of Quincy until about 1870 at which time they moved to Putnam county. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have been asked a number of times where to buy the references I have used. Much of the information has come from books copied at the DAR library and Library of Congress in Washington, DC; and the Allen, Putnam and Washington County, Indiana libraries. Some of them are still available. I have annotated the bibliography so you can acquire them, if so desired. Thomas J. Newton, born about 1845, was the son of Thomas J. Newton. He was a Civil War veteran, and the first husband of my great-grandmother, Annie Elizabeth Kendall. They were married May 22, 1867 by B.H. Bradsbury. Her parents, the Kendall's, were a Putnam county family from New Maysville. Thomas died in Putnam county Dec. 26, 1867 according to an affidavit I have that was done by my great-grandparents when they were elderly. As you can see, Thomas and Annie were only married a matter of months. I have been unable to determine where Thomas is buried. Yesterday, in a visit to Putnam County Public Library, I made it through part of the cemetery records. However, they are kept in closed stacks, and you have to ask for specific books, so he is either not in them, or in some I haven't yet seen. Perhaps another descendant knows this answer. It appeared to me that his parents were fairly wealthy, so I'm thinking he would have had a stone, or at least a record of where buried. Annie next married Rev. Thomas B. Ashbaugh, in Putnam County, and he died in Owen County when they had been married not quite a year. Her third husband, whom she also married in Putnam County, was John C. Criss, born in Owen County, and living at the time of marriage in Clay County. They were married many years.
I am trying to find out if the SPAULDING, John b. May 23,1826 d. Aug 3, 1894 buried in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery, Reelsville, Putnam County Indiana is in fact the ggreat-grandfather of my husband. Our John SPAULDING was born about the same time as the above John and lived in Lawrence Co KY with wife Cynthia MOORE 1850-1860 census than they disappear. Their son, James Elliott SPAULDING is the great grandfather of my husband who married Margaret Emelia OBRYAN of Lawrence Co KY both died and buried in Richardson Co Nebraska. I would appreciate it if you could check the above John Spaulding to see if he is the son of John SPAULDING and Nancy FOLEY from Lawrence Co KY. Thank you, Charlene Spaulding
