    1. Peffley Family book now on-line
    2. Jeffery G Scism
    3. After two years of transcribing, there is more than just the Index available on line, the text (no graphics) is available. This work follows the Peffley, Peffly and Pefley Family from 1729 to 1938. Much of the history in this book is in the Putnam/ Montgomery Counties areas of Indiana. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~scismfam/peffley/peffbooktext.htm Several changes have been made, the INDEX has been brought to the front of the text, and references to addresses have been changed to reflect them as being before 1938, instead of "current". Notes on some of the families are inserted ( with my name). I plan on linked data in the future, and many photographs not included in the original work are or will be linked. This is an on-line basis for updating the family lines, and hopefully corrections to any errors will be submitted. Please bookmark this address, as it is not yet linked to the PFA site. (address may change as well.) IF YOU KNOW OF ERRORS let me know, this may be the GUIDE for the Peffley and allied family's future research, and I don't think it will benefit us to leave errors uncorrected. Jeffery G. 3. Hi, Does anyone out there have information on where and when Reuben Wright and Ruth Shirley were married? Can't locate Reuben in a census before 1830 when he was in Putnam Co., but know he was in Putnam as early as 1828 when his daughter Cynthia married. Reuben was the son of Richard Wright Jr. of North Carolina and Ruth was the daughter of Thaddeus and Elizabeth Shirley of York Co., SC. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Sharon

    3. My grandmother's grandfather was John N. EBERHART. I have a copy of a land record where he bought land in Putnam Co., IN on Nov. 10, 1840. The land Office was in Crawfordsville. One of John's brothers was George P. EBERHART who was b. in IN in 1841. He later married Rebecca GILL. The oldest sibling, we think, is Anna Catherine EBERHART who married Jeremiah BUFFINGTON in 1845 or there abouts. Does anyone have any Eberhart or Payne folks in their files who lived in IN in the 1830s and 1840s. John lived there with his family and he married Delilah PAYNE who lived in IN also in the 1830s and 1840s. They were married in Terre Haute, IN in 1850. They settled in MO where my grandmother's mother was born. In the 1880s they settled in WA where my grandmother was b. in 1891. Sincerely, Edith "Edie" Sando sando1@home.com

    1. BENJAMIN KING
    2. Brian Larimore
    3. Hello Listers, I am trying to find "the old KING farm", as my family calls it. I am a descendent of Benjamin KING who married Perminda LEATHERMAN. One of their children is William Shields KING, b.14 Dec, 1845 in Hendricks County. William's daughter, Stella Pearl KING is my great-grandmother. I have a family letter which begins, "The KING family has been well established in Madison Twp., Putnam County, Indiana, since the picturesque days of the first settlers, and from that time to this those who have borne the name have maintained the high standards of citizenship which the older sought to foster." The letter continues to say that Benjamin King was born in Kentucky in 1820. Perminda Leatherman was born in Putnam County, IN, in 1820. They were married in Putnam County and lived on a farm there where their first five children were born. It continues from there, but I am interested in the farm. According to family story, the original log cabin burned down, but one wall was salvaged and built into the frame house that replaced the cabin. I have a photo of "The KING family reunion"(dated around 1906). In it, about 50 people are standing in front of a frame house. My grandmother was a small child in the picture. Her mother, Stella Pearl KING, is definitely recognizable in the photo. I think this house may be the "old KING farm". I want to find it and find out if it's still standing! I also want to get in touch with any KING relatives who may still be in Indiana. Does anyone know about this farm? Are there any old farms in Madison Twp. which fit this description? I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter! I have been trying for many years to find this farm. Lisa Larimore blarimor@pacbell.net

    1. Re: Putnam Co LUNSFORD/STORM Cemetery
    2. Jason
    3. I have a book called "Illustrated Historical Atlas of Putnam Co., Indiana 1879" that identifies a Peter Lunsford moved into Marion township in either 1827 or 1828 but he either didn't own any property in 1879 or he moved before the book was published for 1879. There is no cemetery that I can find that shows a cemetery with this name. There is however a two residents called STORM that owned property in Marion township, one is I. Storm and the other is R.G. Storm. Their property is shown just north east of US 40 and Mt. Meridian but no cemetery listed on either of their properties for 1879. The closest cemetery that I could speculate is the one at the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery that is just south east of Fillmore. The church is now actually located on what used to be the property of R.G. Storm and I attended that church with my family while I was growing up in the early 1970's. The Bethel cemetery is located where the church used to be on the opposite corner of the intersection. The church burned down many years earlier and was moved to the other side of the intersection. It is also remotely possible that they were buried in the Fillmore cemetery which is close by. As a matter of fact I have a listing of the Fillmore cemetery that has the following: STORM Rev. Lester C., 1903 - 1943 Lola Pauline, 1909 - Paul C., PhD., 1940 - 1974 but no Lunsford was listed. I do not have a listing of the Bethel cemetery, sorry. To get to the Bethel cemetery, take the road south out of Fillmore town, take the first left at the "T", the road turns 90 degrees to the right and then take the left at the next "T". This will lead you straight to Bethel Baptist Church and the cemetery is right there. If they weren't buried there, around the late 1800's, I don't have any other listings. Good Luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Bryant" <SharonBryant@worldnet.att.net> To: <INPUTNAM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 06, 2000 4:56 PM Subject: Fw: Putnam Co LUNSFORD/STORM Cemetery > Can someone help Ernie? 1. Adventures in finding cemetery
    2. Laura Ellen Mitchell
    3. Today we visited the New Maysville Cemetery, but being city slickers, we got lost fast! The directions in the cemetery records book at the Putnam County Library said "to SR 36 and turn east. Go approximately (8) miles to 500E, turn north, follow the road (2) miles into New Maysville.". We drove on 500 E and encountered a "T" in the road that was not mentioned in the directions, not to mention that the road we then encountered was some other number. Do we go right or left, we pondered. We turned right, drove down a gravel road for a mile or two, and then fortunately we found someone to ask! We followed their directions that sent us on into New Maysville, but the road number was not one that had been mentioned in the book. Also, the 2000 Indiana Highway map that we had made it appear that a road right in the middle of Groveland ran right up north to New Maysville. Well, give or take a mile or two, or three, it did, but it sure would lose anyone unfamiliar with the area, like us! We came back on 665, which was curvey in spots, but at least it was paved. I think I will post to the list for directions BEFORE I attempt to visit any countryside cemetery again, so that the locals can enlighten me! But it was a pleasure to see such nicely maintained cemeteries and encounter helpful residents! Laura E. 1. Mourning & Rachel Kendall
    2. Laura Ellen Mitchell
    3. Would like to share information on the Kendall family of Putnam County Indiana. I am especially interested to see if anyone knows who the children of Mourning and Rachel Kendall were. William B. Kendall shows up in the 1850 census as 19 years old. I would imagine he was the youngest child. Mourning Kendall was born in Virginia on March 10, 1791, married Rachel ___________ on __________ and died Sept. 24, 1869 at age 78. He is buried in New Maysville Cemetery, the older section. Rachel __________ Kendall was born April 10, 1791 in Kentucky. She died Jan. 4, 1860, at age 68, and is buried in the old section of New Maysville cemetery, Putnam County. I feel pretty certain that my great-great grandfather, Jesse Kendall, married to Sarah Johnson, was probably their son. In 1860 Mourning appeared to be living right next door, if not with them, in Jackson Twp. Today we visited the New Maysville Cemetery. Mourning's tombstone, which is virtually obscured by bushes and yucca plants probably planted there years ago, was in excellent condition. Rachel's, totally unprotected, has weathered some. In this case, I think the bushes have keep Mourning's stone from deteriorating. The cemetery is well-maintained, and the stone is more or less centrally located, so it is not as though the cemetery itself is overgrown. Laura E. 3. Thanks to Chris, Gilbert, Annette and others for helping to identify Cook's Park found in an old photo I have. Chris, the post card of the "Casino at Cooks Park" is the same buliding in my photo except that the lights are not apparent. I suppose what I thought was a lake was actually Pegion Creek. Now I need to indentify the young lady in the photo. Her name is written as Ethel Traylor and information on the back of the photo says she is 17 and it is dated as 1918. My family line of Traylors are from around Evansville and Indianapolis. No one in my family can identify who Ethel Traylor is or how she fits into our line. Some of my folks are in their 90s. I am sending this note to all the Indiana lists that I subscribe to in an attempt to find a connection. If you receive more then one copy of this communique please disregard all except one. Again, thanks to all those that have helped, Paul Traylor Milwaukee Wisconsin ptraylor@gateway.net

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of John Elmer HARTSAW taken in Cloverdale, Indiana at the Knights Studio. The photo lists John's date of birth as 8 July 1903 and he appears to be 2-3 years of age at the time so I would guess that the photo was taken in 1905 or 1906. I know that John Elmer HARTSAW d. April 1982 in Cheyenne, Wyoming and that at some point in time he was in the State of Nebraska since that is where he applied and received his Social Security card. I'd like to find the family and return the photograph to their care, however, to date I've been unable to locate any relatives. It is a darling photo which should be on someone's mantle. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
