I've "rescued" an old 1845 bible belonging to the JOHNSON-KING Family. I purchased the bible from an antique dealer in Oklahoma but I believe the family lived at one time in Greencastle, IN. Here is what information appears in the bible: A sticker on the front of the bible says "J.B. JOHNSON 96 YEARS OLD 1845". This would mean the sticker was placed there in the early 1940's. The bible was published in New York for the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1845. Entries in the Family Record are as follows: Marriages: John B. JOHNSON and Elizabeth F. KING were married September the 9th A.D. 1847; 1,Oc. P.M. by the Rev. William H. GOODE Births: John B. JOHNSON son of John and Mary JOHNSON was born August the 11th A.D. 1814 Elizabeth F. JOHNSON daughter of William and Margaret KING was born September 6th A.D. 1823 Heber Goode JOHNSON son of J.B. and E.F. JOHNSON was born July 27th half past 5 O'clock AM, A.D. 1848 John William JOHNSON son of John B. and Elizabeth F. JOHNSON was born June the 16th half past 3 O'clock in the morning Sunday A.D. 1850 Baptisms: Heber G. JOHNSON was baptized on the 17th of December A.D. 1848 by the Rev. R. HARGRAVE John William JOHNSON was dedicated to the Lord in baptism September 13th A.D. 1852 by the Rev. W.H. GOODE of M.E.C. Deaths: Elizabeth F. JOHNSON died January the 5th A.D. 1851 7 1/2 O'clock P.M. in peace aged 27 y 3m 30 days John William JOHNSON died September the 13th 1/4 past 4 A.M. aged 1 year 2 months 28 days There appears to be a very faint pencil notation on the back inside cover, all I can make out is the date Feb 24 1852 and what appears to be "Rev." and two other words I can't make out. That is all I can find written in the bible. I'd like to locate relatives interested in having the bible back in the family. I appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thanks, Shelley

Debbie, In Breckenridge County, KY (where several Putnam, Owen, Greene, Martin, Morgan, Orange, Lawrence County families were from) an Isabella Dunkin married a Mason Bruner in 1822. Mason Bruner was then in Orange/Lawrence County IN for the 1830 census, along with other Breckenridge surnames including Meador, Allen, and others. He was later in Daviess and Hendricks counties, with offspring who settled in Greene, Owen, Putnam and in Illinois. I'm looking for the Dunkin connection to Breckenridge Co. All names below were from Fayette Co PA in 1800 census - mostly from page 591 of the census. These names (among many others) appear from time to time along with BRUNERs in their westward movement (circa1780-1850 from Fayette to Jefferson Co KY[1780-1790], then Hardin/Breckenridge Co KY[1790-1818]; then Orange[1818]/Lawrence[1820-30]/Daviess[1830-40]/Martin[1840] Cos IN; then central IL including Dewitt[1840] and Knox[1840] Co IL); (or circa 1840 from Fayette to Tuscarawas[1850]/Defiance[1855+]/Harrison[1860] Co OH; to Tama Co IA[1855-1880]; to Hancock Co IN[1885]). I am not related to all these folks, but I think many listers will find their kin in the counties addressed above, so I am sending this to a wide audience. ARMS, WOOLEY, REDMAN, and MEADOR - I don't recall these as being early Fayette settlers, but they appear circa 1800-1830 in Kentucky and or southern Indiana in the communities with many of these others. Another whole group of names appears to have moved from Fayette Co (probably Redstone Fort) to north central Kentucky (east of Louisville into Nicholas, Fleming, Mercer, Bourbon, Jessamine Cos KY ), circa 1780-1810. These folk then moved north into east-central Indiana circa 1820-1850 (Clark, Scott, Shelby, Johnson Co, IN and local environs), before moving westward. These include Glenn, Wishard, Ferguson, Smith, Martin and some Dutch names - Brewer, Banta, Vories/Vorhies, Van Arsdal, as well as Bruners from Somerset Co, Pennsylvania who are unrelated to those who moved to Breckenridge Co KY (or so it appears to me). Before 1850, many of these people show up in Missouri. From Missouri, after 1850 (post-gold rush), they just scatter everywhere - from Texas to Minnesota. And to the Pacific Ocean. I don't know whether this'll be of any use to anyone, but it seems a waste to not mention it. I actually just intended to send the Marquis name to a researcher, but after looking at the implications of just this short list of Springhill Township names, I thought otherwise. Good luck. I have info on Slavens that ended up in Montgomery Co. then Greene Co. and then Dallas co, One of them married an Irene Stanley whose family was from Putnam Co. Many of Slavens men were doctors and during Civil War. 5 of them were near Portland Mills working for the Union army and locals. This included two temporarily moved from Dallas Co MO. Our branch also has a connection with the Greene Co MO Roundtree family Anyone have info on local militia in Putnam Co. during Civil War? JanS
