    2. The Census Project is in need of transcribers for all states. It is a fun and interesting project to be done at the transcribers leisure. Our goal is to have all the census records for all years, states and counties to be available free of charge to anyone who wants to search them. For more information about becoming a transcriber go to the Census Project Homepage at http://www.us-census.org/ This is a great group of people to work with and a very worthy project. 1. GEORGE W. BURNETT BORN 1862, IN
    2. Hello List, I am seeking the parents and siblings of GEORGE W. BURNETT, born in Indiana, November 15, 1862. I have no idea the county. That was all I could find on census, death certificate, etc. On a tape, made when she was very old, his wife Mary, related this story told to her by GEORGE. George's mother was killed in an accident or died suddenly, when he was an infant. There were other children, don't know ages or how many. George was adopted by Shoemaker/Shumaker?Shoebaker??? He lived with them until the courthouse burned. It destroyed the adoption records. I don't know his age at the time this occurred. He was in Sumner County, Kansas on April 14, 1900. On that day he married Mary M. Bell. George said he couldn't have left if the records were still available for his adoption. Reason unknown. When he left Indiana, he took back his birth name BURNETT, and continued to use it until his death. This is a brick wall. I would really appreciate any help or advise you could provide. If you have any information, you may Email me at JANETSQUAW@aol.com Thank you in advance for your help. Respectfully yours, Jan

    3. Hello everyone, I'm contemplating a couple of projects that I will need help with. Let me give you some background: The federal census is taken every 10 years. There is a period of 72 years which must lapse before the information in the census can be made public. The 1920 was released in 1992 and the 1930 census will be released in 2002, less than 10 months away. The WPA projects covered marriages from 1850-1920 and births and deaths from their beginnings to 1920. The projects that I'm contemplating are these: 1. Transcription of marriages in Putnam County from 1 Jan 1921 to 31 Dec 1930 2. Transcription of births in Putnam County from 1 Jan 1921 to 31 Dec 1930. Both of these are projects which would have to be pursued in Greencastle at the county clerk's office and the Board of Health office. These projects are more than one person can deal with. What I'm asking is if there are any of you out there who would be willing and able to spend some spare time in either of these offices to transcribe the information in these records? Sharon

    1. STALLCUP, MARTIN, SMITH, DEAN
    2. Donna Bruner
    3. Rhonda, Your note about Stallcup caught my eye. Circa 1820, removed to Johnson County Indiana, were Samuel Smith and wife Mary (Martin) Smith, of Lewis County, KY (formerly Mason County, KY). Their children included Eleanor (Smith) Stallcup, wife of William Stallcup, likely part of the Stallcups of Lewis/Mason Co, KY. By the time of the 1850 census, there were no Stallcups in Johnson County. They appear to have moved - to Putnam County, IN, and perhaps elsewhere. The Smith's daughter Alice "Alcy" (Smith) Dean was the wife of Philip Dean. These Dean's remained in Johnson County. Smith is harder to track - their children in Johnson County, IN were - sons John, David, Samuel, Robert, Washington. Daughters Eleanor STALLCUP, Alice (“Alcy”) DEAN, Rebecca WISHARD, Eliza Ann Smith. I'd be interested in any link this information might result in - especially Martin, Stallcup and Smith. Thank you. 1. The BOLIN family
    2. I am looking for information on the BOLIN family of Clay and Putnam counties. My grandmother is Hila BOLIN, (born Jan. 13, 1908--still alive), she had two sisters, Mabel and Myrtle, (1901-1979). Their parents were Samuel J. BOLIN (1878-1949) and Minne I. (STALLCOP) BOLIN, (1880-1931). Both Samuel and Minnie are buried at Croy's Creek Cemetery, Putnam County. I don't know when they married. Samuel's parents were Benjamin and Ellen (ROBERTS) BOLIN, dates of birth and death unknown. Benjamin's father may have been Luther BOLIN, from N. Carolina, no further information. Ellen's father may have been William ROBERTS, but again, I'm not sure and have no further information. Benjamin and Ellen also may have had a daughter, Anna. This branch of the BOLINS went between Putnam and Clay counties. Benjamin BOLIN is said to have been the first white child born in Clay County after it was incorporated, but I have not verified that. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rhonda (STEARLEY) Hebert from Connecticut, daughter of Robert J. STEARLEY of Brazil, and Helen (DELLACCA) Stearley of Perth. If anyone knows them from Brazil High School (Class of 47 and 50), they are doing great.

    2. Does anyone have information on my great-grandfather, Samuel Bolin, and his family (parents: Benjamin and Ellen)? I'm told that Samuel hailed from Putnam County, rather than Clay, where much of his family ended up, and he is buried at Croy's Creek. My grandmother also tells me that Benjamin Bolin was the first white child born after Clay County was incorporated. Does anyone have any verification of this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rhonda from CT. (I have much information on the Stallcops; Minnie Stallcop wed Samuel. But I don't have a wedding date)
