Dear list, Earlier this year I learned that Sarah TYLER was the daughter of William TYLER and Letty GEORGE who were married 15 August 1774 in Loudoun Co., VA. New information tells us that Sally TYLER was born 20 September 1777. [The tombstone inscription at Fillmore Cemetery has her born 1771* . This earlier date was a problem because it had Sally born before the marriage and posed the question whether Sally was a daughter of Letty or a previous spouse. ] Her birth was verified from records in family Bibles or other written data beginning with the birth of William Tyler, Sr. ---and then it goes on to name the children of William and Letty saying that the information came from a J. Z. Tyler in March of 1889 and in converstion with Benj G. Tyler, youngest brother of John W. Tyler and from later notes of J. Z. Tyler at Dayton O., in Sept 1893. This family history was published privately in a book written in 1908 to honor the 100th birthday of John W. TYLER (27 September 1807- 1888), Sally's nephew. Other information about Sally can be found in the "Biographical and Historical Record of Putnam County, Indiana," The Lewis Pub. Co., Chic., 1887, repr. 1975, The Bookmark, P. O. Box 74, Knightstown, Ind., p. 364. Pat Bishop Obrist
Seeking information on Andrew J Pittman, born 9-14-1798,Nelson Co Ky. Married 11 year old Elizabeth "Betsey" Nutterfield/Nutterfee,of Shelby Co., Ky., 5-23-1822, in Nelson Co Ky. Also, married Millie Zimmerman, 7-31-1837, Nelson Co Ky... What happened to Elizabeth. Was there a divorce? She married? abt 1830-1833, John CARTER Jr., (Where?), and lived in Owen Co., Indiana, until her death 5-2-1866. Is this the same Andrew J Pittman, who was an early settler in Owen Co., In? There were 2 Andrew Pittmans in early Owen Co., and another just across the river in Monroe Co., In. What is the connection... Any help appreciated. Thanks. Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net

Hi, This is my first posting to this list serve. I am looking for information on the Gilmore's of Putnam County. My GGrandmother was Jessie Vincent Gilmore, born Dec 11, 1875 in Greencastle. Her father was Charles Clayton Gilmore, born Sept 26, 1848 in Greencastle. Charles was married to Frances Turner, daughter of Robert Turner and Ellen Vincent. Family records indicate that Charles Clayton Gilmore's father was John Gilmore born 1823 in Kentucky, and mother was Elvira Clayton born 1827, Ohio. The same records indicate John's parents to be Thomas and Margaret Gilmore. I would love to be able to prove this information to be true and then be able to find out if Margaret Gilmore is the same Margaret that has the maiden name of Leech. If this is the case I know that I have found some new family members. Any information on GILMORES, TURNERS, LEECH AND VINCENT would be appreciated.

I'm trying to document and find some answers on the following family: Major Anderson, b: Nov. 27, 1777, Kent Co, DE - d: June 30, 1830, Greene Co, OH Married: Nov. 18, 1800, Guilford Co, NC Miriam Mendenhall (dau. of John, 3/6/1767, NC - 12/9/1825, Greene Co, OH) Children: 1) John Mendenhall, b: 9/2/1801 2) Lydia, b: 3/2/1803 3) Phoebe H., b: 3/6/1807, OH 4) Mary, b: 1/11/1809, OH Some researchers also show children: Martha, b: 2/14/1802, OH (md. Alexander Morton, Jr.), but if this birthdate is correct, then she would have been born only 5 months after John Mendenhall Anderson was born. Another researcher gives her birth as 2/17/1798, in MD. Major, b: abt. 1811, who married Narcissa Bennington Morton ..... marriage records for Clark Co, OH show: Major Anderson md. Nercissa Bennington, Sept. 6, 1829. Major & Narcissa are found on the 1850 Putnam Co, IN census and he is listed as (either) 44 or 49 (it's hard to tell), born in DE. I believe that both Martha & Major Anderson are children of Major Anderson (b: 1777), but from a wife previous to Miriam Mendenhall... the 1800 Guilford Co, NC census (which shows 2 Major Andersons) seem to substantiate this theory... the census was taken several months before Major & Miriam's marriage. Did the younger Major's mother die from complications of childbirth? One of the Major Andersons died in Guilford Co in 1801. On the 1810 census, there are no Major Andersons listed there. Can anyone help me with these Andersons? Thanks. Marsha IL
We had a recent death in family, and I posted her obit to the county where she was born, And found that a half brother had passed away that had not been in contact with the family since 1970's. I sent for a copy of his obit, which stated his son and daughter in law live in Fillmore, IN Does anyone know Eugene "Gene" Hightland wife Nacy, have three children and a grandchild listed in obit in 1995?
Hello, I would like to correspond with anyone who is descended from one of these three men: Thomas Jefferson Day m. Maggie McMains, James Wyley Day m. Margaret Gose, or Nelson B. Day m. Alice Cotton. The three men were brothers according to death record information, the sons of William Day and Jane Wells originally of Claiborne Co., TN. Jane Day died in 1879 in MO. William Day's death date is unknown as is information on other children who appeared with them in the 1850 census of Claiborne Co., TN: George, b c 1838; Louiza, b c 1840; Polly, b c 1842; and Fanny, b c 1849. What was the relationship between Jefferson, Nelson, and Wyley Day and Ruben Day? Where they his uncles or were they his half-brothers? I need help unravelling this mystery. Ruben was my great-grandfather. Sharon Bryant
I am looking for any information on McNorton's and Gibson's that were from Putnam County. Please let me know if you run across any information on these families. Patricia
If you have access to the 1870 census for Morgan, Owen, or Putnam county, Indiana, I am seeking a lookup for a DUNKIN/DUNCAN family with at least the following. SARAH age 49, son JAMES, age 16, and perhaps daughter SUSAN MARY/MARY SUSAN, age 14. Sarah and James are shown in Putnam Co in 1880, next door to Morris Carter and John Carter families. This could help tear down a roadblock of 30+ years. Thanks very much. Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
Hi, I'm new to your list. I'm researching Hendricks/x of Putnam County. My research is centered around Allen Hendricks who was born about 1839 in Putnam County. I have Allen (age 11) and John (age 13) listed on the James Ham farm in Russell Township in the 1850 census. I am trying to learn about their parents. If you are researching Hendricks in Putnam County, I would like to hear from you. Thanks! Marilyn Hendricks __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
