Personally, I had never heard of this book and was in the courthouse 2 years ago looking for a marriage circa 1829-30 and was told there were NO records. I am looking for Archibald WEST m. 1. [INPUTNAM] WHAT INFO WAS INCLUDED IN MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE?
    2. Ellie: I sure would like to know what information is included on the 1831 Putnam County, Ind. marriage certificate. The sister of my g.g. grandfather was also married in Putnam County in 1831, Polly Langwell to Daniel Smith. Was wondering if the certificate might have any other names on it such as minister, witnesses, etc. Nell P.S. Congratulations on your persistence.

    3. I wonder why they don't just make an uncertified certificate of the marriage record. Someplaces will do that for a very minimal fee. Usually a couple of dollars. I do not live in the area but if asked they might be able to do something like that. 2. My 4X great-grandfather Philip Henry left Monroe or Owen County and must have lived out his life in Putnam County from some indications. He was a Rev. War veteran. I have no clues as to when he died or where he was buried. I do have family information to share with anyone interested in his ancestry and descendants. Dixie Kline Richardson, Indianapolis

    3. I found my husband's gggrandparents marriage 1839 Putnam marriage in the Greencastle courthouse...in a huge ledger which is how marriages were recorded then. They should be able to find it if you have the right date. Also, you can get the film from your nearest LDS library and make a copy of it.

    3. Good point. This is something I found out when we visited Putnam Co. courthouse. I was looking for a 1832 marriage and didn't find the book in the vault. There IS a book, it's the earlies recorded marriages in the county and is not accessible by the general public. When I asked again about it and had the volume and page number, one of the ladies knew about this volume and went to the basement of the courthouse to retrieve it. This book is in good condition, just fragile. I was not allowed to make copies, but had them place the book on a desk in front of a window and took digital photos of it. 3. Most Indiana counties do not have actual "records" to copy prior to 1882. The marriage was just "recorded" when the parties applied for a marriage license/certificate. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Omegaway2@aol.com> To: <INPUTNAM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 18, 2003 11:29 PM Subject: [INPUTNAM] Marriage Record in 1831.. > Several days ago, I called the courthouse in Greencastle for information on > how to order a marriage certificate of my gg grandparents who married in > October of 1831.. I am trying to eliminate the father of Alexander from the selection of Alexander, William and David in the 1830 Nicholas county KY census. He married Elizabeth Alison (b. 6-8-1810) on 11-1-1832 in Nicholas county KY. There were 8 children born to this union, the first 4 being born in KY. John b. about 1833(1850-17) Robert N. b. 8-13-1836 m. Martha EATALOFF Rutha M. b. about 1837(1850-13) m. John G. SWEENEY William b. 12-7-1838 m. Fannie BOURIS The couple then migrated to Putnam county IN settling in the Brick Chapel area north of Greencastle. The following children were born there: Eleanor b. about 1840 (1850-10)m. William MORRIS Milton b. about 1842(1850-8)m. S.L. GRIDER Emma b. about 1844(1850-6)m. Matking WILLIAMS Alexander b. about 1847(1850-3)m. Amanda LANE In the 1880 census of Putnam county there is a William BRADSHAW listed as a brother of Alexander and he was born about 1817 in Ohio.
