    1. Putnam County help
    2. Sue Shanahan Webb
    3. Hi everyone, I just found a relative that was married in Putnam County on May 15, 1853. I am interested in getting a copy of the marriage certificate as well as the marriage application. Is this something that the courthouse has available or do I need to go elsewhere to get it? Does anyone have access to the newspapers during that timeframe to see if a marriage or engagement notice was posted? Their names were Mary Ann Shanahan and Jeremiah Mahoney. They were both Catholic and I believe that they married in a Catholic Church. Can someone share with me what Catholic Churches were open in May of 1853? Very excited. I think that this will get me started. Thanks for your help. ~sue Sue Shanahan Webb Living for Genealogy and my 3 boys www.geocities.com/ssw36123/SHANAHAN_FAMILYTREE.html www.geocities.com/webbhistory/familytree

    3. I was born in Greencastle and my ancestors migrated from Boone Co., IN to there. I have a brickwall that I can't get past. All the information below is verified. I cannot get further back than Jerry Moore and Phoebe Mogason My gggrandparents were Jerry Moore and Phoebe Mogason both born in KY. My ggrandfather was Madison Moore and my ggrandmother was Armilda Griffin. Madison was born in Madison Co., IN in 1832 and died in Sugar Creek, Boone Co., in Jan 1911. He, my ggrandmother and my grandparents and a lot of the others of the family are all buried in the Forest Lawn Cem., in Greencastle. In 1870 Census Jefferson Twp., Morgan Co., IN In 1880 Census Madison MOORE 49 Indiana Self Married White Male Jefferson, Boone, IN In 1900 Census Index Moore Madison 67 IN Monroe Twp., Putnam Co., IN In 1910 Census Sugar Creek Twp., Boone Co., IN living with my grandparents William E Sanford and his wife Mary F Moore. Evidently the move to Putnam Co., was after this census and being that Madison died in Sugar Creek in 1911 and his death certificate states my grandmother (who signed it) lived in Thorntown, Boone Co., IN at the time of his death.

    1. Trail family
    2. Sharon Bryant
    3. Hello, I am trying to fill in some blank spots in the family of Basil/Bazil Trail who died in 1857. At the time of his death he had the following minor children: 1. JAMES M. TRAIL, b c 1847. I found a marriage record for a James M. Trail and Mary GARTEN dated 31 Mar 1870 in the Putnam Co. WPA Marriage Index. I also found a James and Mary Trail in Jackson Twp., Owen Co. in the 1870 census. I did not locate James M. Trail in the 1880 census but did find in Greencastle Twp., Putnam Co. a Mary Trail, 32, with children Theodore, 9; Minnie, 7; and Adda, 06. Is the woman in the 1880 census, James M. Trail's widow? If so, when did James M. Trail die and where is he buried? What happened to these children? 2. AMANDA TRAIL, b c 1846. I could not definitely locate Amanda in the 1860 census. Of course, there is the possibility that Amanda, Basil's daughter might have been deceased by 1860. There are two Amanda Trail's in the 1860 Greencastle Twp., Putnam Co. census. One is in the household of William Peck and the other in the household of William L. Farrow. Is this just one woman or are there two Amanda Trail's in Putnam Co. at that time? Is either one of them Basil's daughter? 3. SARAH TRAIL, b c 1844. I located two marriages for a Sarah Trail in the Putnam Co., WPA Marriage Indexes. One was in 1860 to a Francis Crisenberry and the other in 1870 to a Samuel H. Walker. In the 1870 census Francis Crisenberry was enumerated in Jackson Twp., Owen Co., IN right next door to John and James Trail, sons of Basil Trail. Are either of these two women the daughter of Basil Trail? Any help you can give me would be gratefully appreciated. Sharon Bryant
