Does anyone on the list have information relative to the history of Carpentersville. It apparently was situated on a strip of land between the road and railroad near the present North Putnam Schools between Bainbridge and Roachdale. My paternal grandmother, Martha Ellen Graham, married David H, Cline who ith his brother, Robert T. Cline had a mercantile business in Carpentersvillle. During the yeas some time between 1850 and 1860 the Joseph H. and Sarah Ellen Graham family moved from Montgomery County to Clay County by way of Carpentersville. I would like to learn the origin of the name and the life span of the town. Your help most appreciated. Richard, I agree that that is what the old "delete" button is for, however, you've been on this mailing list often enough that I thought you knew that advertising something for sale was forbidden. I had just not gotten around to "administratively" removing your message from the list. If you will go to Rootsweb I believe you will find a mailing list devoted to items that are for sale. If not Rootsweb, there is a message board at Ancestry you can use. You probably would have better luck there. Thank you for refraining for repeating this forbidden action in the future. Best of luck. Indiana State Library Genealogy Database: Marriages 1993-2000 http://199.8.200.229/db/IN_marriages_search.asp Two of my children were married in Indiana during this time frame. I checked. Both records were essentially correct (one minor error which I believe was an error in keying the information for the database). A little awkward as the county is not displayed with the names but you are directed to a list (PDF) of counties/locations which have been number coded. Enjoy. Sharon Bryant List manager
Coleen, A reading of the WPA Marriage Index (1850-1920) does not find a marriage for Temple Calhoun Smith Jr. and Martha Ann Scott at any time within that period. Checked both Scott and Smith. Thank you everyone for being patient with me about the obits. I have found a few but I have spent 10 hours at the library. This process takes a while. The newspapers from back then did not put the obits in a certain place. They kind of sprinkled them through the whole paper... I have read a lot in the last couple of visits to the library. I can't get any with a death date of 1860-1864 those reels are missing. I haven't yet looked for the ones in the 1900's. I will do that soon. They archive up to present.
