Hi Sheila: Thomas J. Shuey and 'Minnie' Grider Shuey are the parents of my Uncle Paul Grider Shuey. Here are the children: Paul Grider Shuey, b. April 3, 1896 in Indiana; died March 10, 1977 in Portland, OR. Married Blanche Katherine Mitchell Nov. 15, 1923 in Rochester, WA. Nelle G. Shuey, b. Dec. 12, 1879 in Putnam Co., IN. Never married. Died in Seattle, WA. Mabel Shuey, b. Feb. 28, 1886 in Putnam Co. IN. Never married. Died in Seattle, WA. I'll have to look up the dates of death for Nelle and Mabel. Thomas Jasper was the first Reverend for the University Christian Church here in Seattle. There is a picture of him hanging in the church. His brother, H. O. (Henry Owen) Shuey was a very prominent banker in Seattle and his home is still standing in the University District, just north of downtown Seattle. It was recently bought by a couple who are restoring the home. It is listed on the Historic Homes site. I'll email you with more questions and the dates. I'm really excited to finally someone who has some knowledge of the family. The Garst Family is also associated with the Peffleys, who came from Botetourt County Virginia after coming from Lebanon County Pa, before that. Gail Honeyman once wrote to me about Martin Shuey, named in Jacob Peffley, II will: Martin Shuey served as guardian of some of the children of Jacob Peffley, II. The fact that the children chose a man of the Reformed faith does not indicate a close connection, if one at all to the Dunkers. I suspect but am not certain that the appointed guardian John Haldeman/Holderman was a Mennonite. This was while still in PA. Dear Cristy in WA, My ggg grandmother was Mary (aka Polly) Grider. Information I have on her is from an old family tree obtained from Eleanor Ward Timmons of Crawfordsville, IN. It shows my Mary Grider born 20 April 1788, and dying 17 July 1861, and that she married my ggg grandfather John Riley Dickerson. Further information that I've obtained (from other sources) shows my Mary Grider was born in Greenbrier Co., VA, and that she married John Dickerson 24 April 1804, place unknown. The John Riley Dickersons were early settlers of Putnam Co., IN, having come to Franklin Township in 1829. I have not had time to research this line any further, however, the surname Grider is not that common, so your Mary/Minnie Grider could very well be related to my Mary Grider. I hope we can find a connect. Judy Gordon in ID

Umm, blush, guess that would be me. LOL! I think I might have found more documentation/proof that my Martha Scott is the right one for Jacob and Delilah. I received a care package from Sharon Young (THANK YOU!) and it had a newspaper article in it that had a part that mentioned that Henry Scott was living with his niece Mrs. U. A. Carney in 1938. Boy did my radar go off. Mrs. U. A. Carney is the d/o Malinda Scott and Samuel Vancil. Gennetta (Jeannetta) Ann Vancil married Uzal Wesley CARNEY, s/o Francis CARNEY and Martha Sophronia PERRY. Malinda's sister, Martha Scott POYNER, had a son named Jesse James POYNER who married Galeenah CARNEY d/o Chesterfield M. CARNEY and Columbia Porter BRANHAM. So far I've not tied the two CARNEY families tightly together, but the fact two CARNEY men married the daughters of two SCOTT sisters looks like a good link to me. While researching family trees on the web I found a link between VANCIL, POYNER, and JUSTICE families too, but I've not been able to tie that up in a tidy package yet. So if you or anyone reading this has more info on this lead I'd really, really appreciate it. Although there are a couple of cases where the Pelfrey and Peffley families lived close together, I haven't found any connecting relationship. We lived on same road as Clinton Center School and we and they also lived South of the school. My Dad b. 1919 also grew up knowing these boy's aunts and uncles who were in the same area in the 1930's, 1940's, etc. I just wondered if the same family line with a variation in spelling? The boys who went to school when I did (they were a little older than I) were Floyd & Doyle. I am sure my Dad would remember the parents names if someone needs to know. > > Mary Lou Cox Hazelrigg > > Jeff Scism <[email protected]> wrote: > Thanks, The David peffley/Mary Graybill marriage is that of my ancestors. > > Jeff Scism (which has over 100 known variations of spelling that were > used...) > > Karen Mandsager wrote: >> Jeff, >> >> I am not researching the Peffleys but ran across a couple of them while researching a Priest line in Putnam Co., IN: >> >> David Peffley m.
