Day April 25, 1908 - March 24, 2000 Zola L. Day, 91, who resided at the Extendacare Facility, Goshen, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 24. Mrs. Day was born on April 25, 1908, to Clarence and Effie (Robison) Rayburn of Medaryville, Ind. Mrs. Day was one of ten children, four of whom still survive. She attended Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., for one year and obtained her two-year teaching degree from Indiana State Teacher's College, Terre Haute, Ind. She taught in a one-room school in Jasper County, Ind., for some time, teaching all eight grades. As Zola LaVerne Rayburn, on June 3, 1933, in Vevay, Ind., she married William Harold Day of Madison, Ind., who preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dr. Paul K. Day on May 22, 1971; three brothers, Russell Rayburn of Plainfield, Ind., Ralph Rayburn of Monticello, Ind., and Tom Rayburn of Columbus, Ind.; and by two sisters, Miss Laura Ray! burn of Francesville, Ind., and Mrs. Hazel Robison of South Bend. Mrs. Day was active in quite a few activities during her lifetime. She spent most of her married life as a busy homemaker, but returned to teaching in 1959, teaching 1st grade at Clinton Community School near Goshen. After several years she transferred to Waterford Elementary School where she again taught 1st grade. She then transferred to Jefferson Township School, north of Goshen, where she taught 2nd grade until her retirement. Mrs. Day was a member of the Extension Homemaker's Club for many years, and for several years was also a member of the Extension Homemaker's Club Chorus. She and Mr. Day were both involved in the Gideon Ministry for many years she was an active Gideon Auxiliary member. After retirement Mr. and Mrs. Day did public relations work for the Narramore Christian Foundation of Rosemead, Calif. They traveled in northern Indiana, southern Michigan and, during the three winter months, they went! to Arizona to work in that area. They later became associated with Family Life Radio, working in the same areas as they had when traveling for the Narramore Foundation. Mr. and Mrs. Day were longtime members of the First Baptist Church of Goshen. She is survived by two children, David M. Day of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. (Peggy) William Johnson of South Bend, Ind.; by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hershberger of Lafayette, Ind., Mrs. Eunice Parker of Lafayette and Mrs. Norma Allen of Oxford, Ind.; and by a brother, Norman Rayburn of Monticello, Ind. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, in the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, with Pastor Greggory Lanzen of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, in the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and one hour before services on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International! or to the First Baptist Church of Goshen.
