Oct 1884, age 15 in Illinois, father b, Switzerland, mother b. Ohio in the home of Adolph & Dora MYERS, both born in Germany. Searching the 1880 census for ALT in Livingston Co., IL, I found in Indian Grove Twp., Livingston Co., IL: ALT, Nickolas, head, age 29, b. Switzerland ALT, Rosan, wife, age 26, b. Iowa ALT, Willie, son, age 1, b. IL ALT, unnamed female, dau, age 1m, b. IL SAGEL, Anna, sister-in-law, age 22, b. Iowa Conflicting information for birthplaces of both of the child's mother's... it lists birthplace of mother as Germany, yet Rosan (SAGEL) ALT lists birthplace as IOWA. The evidence is pointing strongly to this being the family of your Samuel, despite the conflicting birthplace information. Note that this Nickolas and Rosan is the same family that also appears in the 1910 census in Salem Twp., Pulaski Co., IN, with their son William (Willie in 1880).
