When I was there in 2000 the name of the pastor was Carl Fitchett. My ggrandparents are also buried there along with numerous other relatives. At one time there were pictures on the Internet of some of the gravestones. I have tried to find that site today but have not been able to locate it. Good luck.

Surnames: Saffran Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3h.2ADI/572 Message Board Post: My aunt recently asked me to help her do some genealogy research on her father's family. The surname I'm researching is Saffran. It's German. She recently found out from an old family letter she found that her Saffran grandparents died and are buried in Denham, Indiana. The family was Evangelical Lutheran, so they would likely be in the vicinity of a church of this denomination if there is one in that town. The grandparents were immigrants in 1883 or 1884 from Germany (probably Ricksdorf). Might someone know of how I could have the deaths researched and the graves. They would probably have died between 1895 and 1910. Any help much appreciated.

Your information pretty much matches what I have been finding on the internet. Except there seems to be some disagreement over Catherine Hoppes parents. The Hoppes generations page at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~hoppes/html/d0001/g0000096.html#I1902 seems to think she was the daughter of John Micheal's younger brother Jacob Hoppes (1764-1850) and his wife Mary _____. I have been having trouble fitting the Catherine Hoppes who married George Shelhart into John Micheal and Catherine Harr Hoppes' family because they seem to have had a daughter named Catherine born in 1790 who married David Wertman and it seemed strange that they would name a second daughter Catherine. Some researchers got around that problem by saying her name was Sarah Catherine Hoppes but I can't track that down either. If you are looking for Hoppes information the Hoppes Generations site at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~hoppes/ seems to have a lot of it. Thanks again, Sandy
