You can find Civil War information by plugging in Civil War Indiana, there are histories of all the regiments on the internet. You can also send to the National Archives and Record Administration (try NARA on the internet) for an address for Civil War papers. My Grandfather was John Bernard Schall b. 1901, son of Albert Elsworth Schall and Loucynthia Cox Schall. I have no information on Pius Schall, however, I may be able to give you a little help in searching for more family information. Nicholas (Nickolas) Schall was born in Baden, province of Bavaria, (Germany) in 1709. He and family immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1752. At least one son moved to Jefferson County, Virginia around 1772 (now West Virginia). (Family name spelled "Scholl" in some texts). Some Schall family members moved to Seneca County, Ohio in 1822. (In Ohio it seems that brothers changed the family name spelling to their own liking, including Shall, Shaul, and Shaull.) Many Schalls stayed in Ohio, but John David Schall moved his family to Indiana sometime after 1850, and is buried in Rochester. His son, Albert Elsworth Schall, worked on farms near Medaryville, DeLong, Monterey, and is buried in South Bend. There were a lot of family members at the Schall family reunions, so I surmise Pius was related to this bunch.

I noticed "Strickler" as one of your surnames. I am working on the Shidler surname. William Henry Shidler (born 1895)from Pulaski County, Indiana changed his name from "Strictler" (not clear on the spelling) to Shidler. The only place I have seen William Henry's original name was on his marriage application. It appears his father's name was "R. Strictler" (could be Stridler, Stricttler - penmanship was poor). Believe his first name was Rufus. William Henry Shidler's mother was Mary Floyd. Think there may be a connection?
