Barbara, Yes, I am not sure when the "County Farm" was built, but the following Biography I am posting, will put it as late as 1873, it was probably built earlier, but as I am in Virginia, I don't have access to the records in Pulaski County Court House and the Winamac Library. The County Farm is a large old two story brick home, with barn and some other out buildings. Since this was a County facility, records of occupants, arrival, death, medical care etc. are probably in the home or in the Court House. Some have referred to the County Farm as Old Folks Home, Poor House, and Soldiers Home. To get to the County Farm, Take 119 South out of Winamac from US 35, this is Washington Street, 119 turns left on Franklin Street, go one block and turn right on South Street and head West out of town. It is a bout a half mile out on the right, can't miss it. You can see it from Winamac's Crown Hill Cemetery. The Biography is of J. K. Boyles, his brother J. G. Boyles owned the SE 1/4 of Section 14 , the County Farm was just across the road from their property in 1873, J. K. was Superintendent of the County Farm of Pulaski County, Indiana for ten years, the Bio was published in 1883.
