    1. [INPULASK] RE: Marriage Records
    2. The county courthouse in Winamac may have a record, although there will be very little information on it. Records prior to 1905 are entries in large ledger books, with just the name of the bride and groom and the date of the marriage. After 1905 Indiana required people to fill out a marriage application, which listed a lot more genealogical information. Bob Wallace Columbus, Ohio

    1. [INPULASK] Fw: When you thought I wasn't looking
    2. Jerry M.
    3. WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING (Written by a former child) A message every adult should read, because children are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life. When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it and I learned we have to take care of what we are given. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.. When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up. When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, "Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking." I AM SENDING THIS TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE I KNOW, WHO DO SO MUCH FOR OTHERS, THAT THINK NO ONE EVER SEES. LITTLE EYES SEE A LOT. Each of us, parent or friend, influence the life of a child. Today I said a prayer for you. How will you touch the life of someone today? Just by sending this to someone else, you will probably make them at least think about their influence on others.

Indiana genealogists in high places have tried to make amendments to the bill to allow access to persons doing "genealogical study" but, because "genealogical study" is not clearly defined, the lack of a definition could be used as a legal means to restrict the records. The bill was authored by Peggy Welch and Indiana Vital Records Association is its major supporter. The committee is scheduled to hear the bill at the State House in Indianapolis at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 12. It is hoped that those who oppose the bill can show up in great numbers. If you are a resident of Indiana and you cannot attend this important meeting, the Indiana Genealogical Society encourages you to contact your state representative, senator, all members of the House's Committee on Public Health, and the sponsors of the bill and tell them to vote NO on HB1540. The bill's sponsors and committee members are noted below. For other information about how to contact your legislator and senator, go to http://www.in.gov/legislative/legislators/. To read more about the bill go to http://www.indgensoc.org/HB1540.html. (Copied from Randi Richardson, moderator of Monroe County Indiana rootsweb elist.)

    2. Sandy, did you know that the LDS church placed the 1880 U.S. census online in October? Click on the census link on the left side of the home page at: http://www.familysearch.org Select the 1880 U.S. census in the box at the top of the next page, and you can then customize census searches in many different ways. It's fun, and was very productive for me with some late blank spots in my research. Adele/Seattle

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3h.2ADI/394.1.4 Message Board Post: Jack, I think I found a thread of Ezekiel and some of his background. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/in/clinton/bios/biot-z.txt -this website has a biography of a John W. Timmons, Jr. in Clinton County, Indiana. His father John Sr (a native of Fountain County Indiana), had the following children, Michael, Ezekiel, Elizabeth, David, Jane, Sophronia, John W, Alice and Della. In the Indiana Marriage of 1845-1920, Ezekiel Timmons of Clinton County Indiana first marries Annie Crick on Sept 30, 1874. Then Ezekiel Timmons of Clinton County Indiana marries Pair J. Hall on Feb 27, 1878. I had been told that my grandfather David Gert Timmons was born in Nebraska. Nebraska conducted a census in 1885. Located in Nemaha Precinct, Lancaster, Nebraska I found: E. Timmons, age 31 b. Indiana, married to Paie Timmons (must have been a mistake in interpretation) age 27, born in Indiana. The following children are listed. Clyde Timmons, 8 b. Indiana May Timmons, 7 b. Indiana Charles Timmons, 5 b. Indiana William Timmons, 3 b. Indiana David Timmons, 1 b. Nebraska I believe that the photo that was posted is probably Ezekiel. I am still having trouble finding any information about Pair J. Hall Timmons, but will keep looking Let me know if this information matches anything you may have. Sandy Sandy

    1. [INPULASK] HOW-2 find references
    2. Cindy Kimes
    3. These helpful instructions were posted to another email list. Thought they might be of use to some of you looking for references AND for folks not aware of this information available on the LDS site. ======================================================================= Start at the LDS family search page http://www.familysearch.org/ On the right it has a column titled "Family History Library System" with a picture of a building. That column has four links. Click on the one that says "Search the Family History Library Catalog for records and resources." The next page will have a column of blue buttons on the right. Click the one on the top of the column that says "Place Search." The next page will have two blanks. Say, for example, you want information on ancestors that lived in Johnson Co, IN. For Place, you would put Johnson. For Part Of, you would put Indiana. Don't abbreviate the state name. The next screen will contain the matching places. There may be several matches, depending on where you're looking for. In these matches, the first word refers to the state you input; the second word, the county. The desired match for the example here would be the one "Indiana, Johnson." Click on "Indiana, Johnson." It will pull up the list of microfilm(s) that the LDS has on that area. Hope this is clear. Heather
