Barbara, Charlie McKinley would be your man then, and I do believe he said he had access to the cemetery books. I was back in Winamac in January for the funeral of my sister Helen Kopkey and he came to the funeral home. He told me at that time if I ever needed genealogy help he would check the books for me. His family used to own a company that made the tombstone markers for the graves. I would call the phone number below to see if it is the correct McKinley and if it is not I am sure they can give you the number of the correct person. Winamac only has 2400 people and every one knows everyone else. Please feel free to call. It is a small friendly town, a little like Mayberry. :) Also look the Winamac historical society up on the internet. They have wonderful volunteers who help people who live in other states. When I contacted them asking a lookup I received a brown manila envelope just full of family information. I ran Charles McKinley through "GOOGLE", Winamac Indiana white pages, and this is what I got... Charles McKinley 437 N. Market St. Winamac, IN 46996 (574) 946-3048 Good Luck, Donna Shearer Cotter of Scottsdale, AZ (who grew up in Winamac) and also used to live in CA.....Newport Beach :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara LaMarche" <searcher_22@hotmail.com> To: <INPULASK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 03, 2003 6:33 AM Subject: [INPULASK] Cememtery Question > > Donna > Thanks for the reply. Hoping someone on the list might know the answer to my question. Is there a sexton or county cemetery worker with knowledge of who is buried in the Wasson Cemetery in Winamac even if there is no marker? I am aware of an inventory taken I'm sure by gracious volunteers, I am looking for records kept by the cemetery itself. Where is the Wasson Cemetery? Charles McKinley seems to know where everyone is buried around Winamac. I believe he has access to the cemetery books. From p. 594, "Counties of White and Pulaski, Indiana. Historical and Biographical" Chicago: F. A. Battey & Co., 1883, publ. 1883: "In February, 1869, W. F. Stewart founded a small, local, neutral paper at the village [Star City], called the "North Star," which he conducted with fair success for about two years. A portion of the time, the paper bore the name of the Star City "Independent." Also on p. 594: "On the 1st of February, 1882, Mr. Stewart resumed the business, and issued the first number of the "Chronicle," a small three-column folio newspaper." Does anyone know if any of these newspapers or microfilms of these newspapers are available?
I wonder if your "real" name is the "birth" name on your certificate. There are agencies that help you find your adoptive parents. I can't give you a website so I guess I would try adoptions. Hi Pulaski Co. Listers Recently I have obtained a wonderful document from 1850 listing the names of Pulaski Co. male residents and their children. The source of this document is from a resident of Pulaski Co. who was filing an old box of records in the building where old county records are stored. So, I can't provide an exact location of this document, (proper citiation). It was so neat though, I just had to re-type the info and share it with everyone. It is one of those documents you just don't find in researching traditional locations. It may answer some questions in your family research. This is not an exact transcription as there were columns drawn on the paper I can't recplcate in this e-mail so I will just type it in one list. ___________________________________________ "List of Children between the age of five and Twenty one years in district No. 2 Township 30 R 2 weste in Pulaski County and State of Indiana on the 10 day of September 1850" George W.
