The only place I can find him is in the Civil War records. He gives Mount Vernon, Indiana in 1865, when he joined the Union Army in the Civil War. I also have him on my ggrandfather's death certificate as Jackson Mortis born Ind. That is ALL I have. The death certificate lists Almeda Beal of Henderson, Ky. as Jackson Mortis' wife.
