    1. [INPOSEY] EMGE family story
    2. This story is about the EMGE family of Fort Branch, IN, part of the same family, I'm sure. One of the daughters of old man EMGE, who founded Emge Packing Company, married a fellow named "Coonie" ELPERS. Coonie became the treasurer of Emge Packing Co., I believe. At least, he was one of the big wigs in the company. His son, Bob Elpers, joined the Army Air Corps in World War II and became a fighter pilot. He called his dad one day and told him he was going to be flying in the area in a fighter plane and that he would fly the plane between the two tall smoke stacks at the packing plant. Coonie got so upset he ran out to measure the distance between the two stacks and was trying to find statistics on the wing span of the fighter. I don;t know if Bob Elpers ever did fly through the stacks but it sure created a furor around the plant that day. Cookie, in Florida
