    3. Folks, I have had a very hard time finding any information on my Philips family. I found a researcher who has helped me find some important information. If you would like assistance from him, please let me know privately at [email protected] and I will forward your request to him. I remember that at least two people from this list asked me to let them know if I found a competent researcher to let them know. To reiterate my family: John P. Philips married (2nd) Permelia Stallings in Logan Co, KY 1810 and settled Posey Co, IN 1811. He bought some land in 1811 and sold it to George Rapp and Assoc 1815. He bought more land in Black Township in 1816 and sold most of it to his son-in-law, James Alexander, in 1825. What I didn't know was that his son, James Philips, sold a portion of the land in 1835. We have still not found a probate, but it is certain that the land John P. Philips bought in 1816 was sold by his son in 1835. James Philips died 1843 and we are now looking for the tax records to confirm ownership of this specific piece of land. As yet I have been unable to find John P. Philips prior to 1810 or after 1830. Children of John P. Philips and unknown 1st wife: Nancy Philips b 1800 married James Alexander, Posey Co 1820 James Philips b 1802 married Nancy Thomas, widow of Aaron French and Giles Alexander. James Philips d 1843. (1850 Posey co, IN census shows Nancy Phillips with her children with last names French, Alexander and Philips. Also Joseph Hurst is in the household. Interesting to note that Louvina Hearst m. Romelon Levitt 1849 in Clay Co, IL) Children of John P. Philips and Permelia Stallings (dtr of Wright Stallings): Mary Philips b 1811 IN married Noah Levitt 1828, moved to Clay Co, IL 1830 Jemima Philips b 1814 IN married cousin Lockhart Stallings 1828, moved to Clay Co, IL 1830 Benjamin Philips b 1817 IN, moved to Texas 1836, married Melissa Crownover 1838 John Wesley Philips b 1818 IN, married Mary Sophia Masquelett, died Effingham Co, IL 1854 Wright Philips b 1819 IN, moved to Clay Co, IL, married Rossey Jane Toliver 1848 Henry Philips b 1826 IN, moved to Clay Co, IL, married Feby Franklin 1851 It appears John P. Philips died in Posey Co, IN 1830-1835. It appears Permelia Philips was head of household in Clay Co, IL 1830. Permelia Stalings married Thomas Levet in Clay Co, IL 1833. Wright Stallings of Posey Co, IN died 1835-1836. His dtr, Permelia Philips inherited land. Her children living in IL sold the land in Posey Co 1850. Family lore is other Philips children's names were William, Aurie and Alvin. Permelia may have had Levitt children by names of Eldridge J. Levitt and Lorenzo Dow Levitt. I found Eldridge J. Levitt, Obadiah Levitt and George H. Phillips in Shannon Co, Mo 1850s. Ignatious Levitt in Reynolds Co, MO. I also found that Mortimer Philips served in the Civil War from Olney, Richland Co, IL. Other IL servicemen were Obadiah, Louis and Lorenzo Philips. Coincidence? I am very curious about Louis/Lewis Phillips m. Lucinda Hilerbrant 1843 and Mortimore Philips m. Lydia Douthert 1853, all of Clay Co, IL. I wonder if they are related to my Philips family of Posey Co IN>Clay Co, IL. George Philips m. Cathy Gillmore 1848 in Effingham Co, IL. Is this the same George H. Philips in Shannon Co, MO in the 1850s? Hoping to connect with other Philips researchers. Wanda
