I am a descendant of John Parkhill and Martha Patterson of Hamilton Co. in So. Illinois, which is quite near the Indiana border. George M. Mitchell of Stewartsville, Indiana wrote the obituary for John and Martha's son Henry Parkhill, who was also a veteran of the Civil War. The long and flowery obituary appeared in the 30 April 1885 edition of the McLeansboro Times. Maybe your Maggie Catherine was related to Henry and John. Here are the details that I have. John Joseph Parkhill b. 13 December 1813 Franklin Co., Penn. m. 28 March 1839 Guernsey Co., Ohio to Martha Patterson d. 27 December 1891 in Hamilton Co., Ill. If you do a surname search for Isabell Parkhill (John's daughter and my g.grandmother) and go to Hamilton Co. queries, you will find a lot of information on the Parkhill line, posted by John Byrd.
