Wanda, I haven't done any land research in Indiana, but I think your problem is that you asked for the wrong information. Write again and ask them to check their deed index/cross-index for John Philips beginning about 1816. The indexes will give a book and page number for any recorded transactions and you can order copies. What you asked for is a title search which is much more complicated and is the specialty of a title attorney and/or abstract/title company. Ordering a copy of all land transactions that John Philips was a party to will be much less expensive. Hope this helps.
