Hi, Cynthiana is about 1 mi (as the crow flies) west of the Gibson line. Poseyville is about 4 miles west of Cynthiana. Mt. Vernon (on the Ohio) is the seat of Posey Co and Poseyville and Cynthiana are about 30 min or more from Mt. Vernon (I am guessing without looking at a map). To my knowledge, there is really no good way to get to Mt. Vernon (even today)--must go west to New Harmony then south to Mt. Vernon, or go to Evansville and then west to Mt. Vernon.
