Does anyone know what happened to Stephan Schmitt b. 1830 in Alsace-Artolshem to JB Schmitt. He married Gertrude Pittman at St. Wendel in 1855, and seems to vanish after 1860. I couldn't figure out this mysterious Schmitt until I learned on the Alsace web site that Eteinne is French for Stephan. Birth dates and place put him in the JB Schmitt family and it looks as if he was the first one here. He wasn't on the passenger list of those entering in 1855 and the next bunch arrived in 1858.
