The Wells family of Gibson/Posey Co does not appear connected to the Wells family of Muhlenberg Co. The latter family are primarily descendants of one Francis Wells out of NC (there may be a connection several generations back, however). One or two of the children in this family appear to have married into the Drake and Crabtree families (migrated through Washington Co VA? don't know if it's the same family). BUT, the Wells of Gibson/Posey Co are out of Pennsylvania, and migrated primarily through Nelson and Shelby Co, so far as anyone has been able to determine. >From everything I can gather about early Posey Co there were two different groups who arrived early on -- the NC folk and the PA folk -- they all migrated through KY and most of the NC folk were also originally from the midAtlantic States, but the paucity of early records in the general WV area has made it difficult to trace their movements. BTW, I have no information beyond Peter Jones in that family. Do you? So many Jones-surname individuals I haven't been able to connect him with anyone.

Surnames: Jarvis, Jones, Hill Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Zi.2ADE/1558.2.2 Message Board Post: Dear Margaret Wells, I am researching the Peter Jones (Mar 1786-16 Sep 1846)who moved from Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky to Posey Co., Indiana. I would enjoy exchanging information with you. My connection to him is through his first wife Sally Jarvis, whom he wed in August 1806 in Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky. She was most likely the daughter of the Revolutionary War Veteran, Edward Jarvis of Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky (the only Jarvis family in the area), my ancestor. He did not, however, leave a probate record. Peter married (2) Dicy Hill (5 Sep 1807 KY-9 Nov 1857 Posey Co., IN), on 4 September 1828 in Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky, the daughter of George & Jeney Hill of Muhlenberg Co., KY (as proven in George's will). I was unaware that Peter was a minister. Of which church? I have copied the Census records that pertain to Peter Jones in Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky and in Posey Co., IN. I have copied the deed that shows that the Peter Jones in Muhlenberg Co., KY and the one in Posey Co., IN are one and the same person: Deed Bk 6, pg 519. 9 Sep 1828 Henry Heck [who married Polly Jarvis, most likely the daughter of Edward Jarvis] of Muhlenberg Co., KY sold to Peter Jones of Posey Co., IN for $200, 232 acres on waters of Caney part of Cypress [Creek] in Muhlenberg County, KY, 1 mare, 1 colt, 7 cattle, 5 sheep, 3 beds & furniture, all household & kitchen furniture, 1 plow & gear, 1 hoe, 1 mattock, 1 chopping axe & 60 hogs. Signed: Henry Heck. Then in Deed Bk 6, pg 528. 9 Sep 1828 Henry Heck is now released from his mortgage on 232 acres on Caney Fork of Cypress. I note that these deeds show that Peter Jones was helping out Henry Heck, his probable brother-in-law, I believe the Heck family also settled in Posey Co., IN, and Jones probably did this on the visit back to Muhlenberg Co., KY (most followed the Green River between the two areas at this time) when he married his second wife [marriage occurred 4 days prior to the registering of the deed]. I also have a copied the information of the will of Peter Jones, dated 15 Sep 1846 and probated on 8 Oct 1846 in Posey Co., IN, as published in "Posey Co., IN Records." I have the following list of children of Peter Jones by his two wives: 1) Josiah Jones [Edward Jarvis had a son named Josiah Jarvis]. 2) Polly Jones, who married Pruet Jordon on 25 Aug 1828 in Posey Co., IN. 3) Patsey Jones, who married Caleb Griffin. 4) Sally Jones, who married John Morrison. [the first four children were probably children of Sally Jarvis, those listed below were the children of Dicy Hill] 5) Benjamin Jones (Feb 1829-12 Oct 1843) 6) Peter Jones Jr. (May 1829-5 Mar 1837) 7) Indiana Jones (Jan 1830-29 Mar 1846) 8) Thomas J. Jones (b 1831 Posey Co., IN) 9) Minerva Jane Jones (b 1835 Posey Co., IN) 10) Mary E. Jones (b 1837 Posey Co., IN) 11) Elijah G. Jones (b 1841 Posey Co., IN) 12) Davis W. Jones (b 1845 Posey Co., IN, I note that the abstracted will record calls him "David W." Jones.) 13) Diana(h) Jones (b 1846/7 Posey Co., IN, who may have been a posthumous child, should the age on the 1850 Census of Posey Co., IN prove correct [age 3]). As you can probably tell, I also have found reference to this family's burial at Jones Cemetery in Robb Township, Posey Co., IN. The migration between Muhlenberg Co., KY and Posey Co., IN was very large during this time, and I have several ancestors, or siblings of ancestors that made the move. Many of them eventually returned to Muhlenberg Co., KY, where they lived along the Cypress Creek watercourse which runs through the central portion of the county. Is Peter your ancestor? By which wife? I would enjoy updating my records with any additional listing of Peter's descendants that you have. I have much to tell you on the Jarvis family if this is your branch, or I also know some information on the Hill family. I have published a book on that includes the Jarvis family descendants entitled "Early Families of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky" which carries the family down through about the year 1900 and their spread throughout western Kentucky and your branch that settled in Posey Co., Indiana. We still have copies for sale if you should be interested. Fellow researcher, Nathan W. Murphy nwilliammurphyIV@hotmail.com

I believe only William Thomas is listed in the family Bible in a birth record.
