Now that I have done more census work and found George W Carr in 1840 Wayne Co, IL -- a county where the Gregory surname is quite prevalent, and have a better handle on the fact that George appears to be a name in the Carr family (cemetery records), I wonder if you might tell me if you are descended from John or William Carr, each b ca 1770, found in 1820 Posey Co? I would like to connect George with the right Carr family and perhaps use that information as a means to figure out where they went after 1840. They appear not to have remained in Illinois. By the way, did I ever ask you if you were connected to the Biddy Gregory b ca 1855 who married James Robert Finnell in Posey Co? It appears that her mother was named Elizabeth, born about 1828.

Speakers will include John Molitor, a lobbyist for Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and an attorney; Jeannie Regan-Dinius, the cemetery registry coordinator for the Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, Indiana Department of Natural Resources; Ernie Lasley, Coordinator for the Gibson County Pioneer Cemeteries Restoration Project; and John Walters,an independent cemetery restorer and a member of the National Association for Gravestone Studies. The workshop is being co-sponsored by the Indiana Historical Society, the Department of Historic Preservation and Archaeology of the DNR, and the Vanderburgh County Historical Society. During the morning session, participants will learn about the state's efforts to document the locations of Indiana's burial grounds and private citizens' efforts to preserve and restore cemeteries. In addition, speakers will explain Indiana's current cemetery laws, discuss property ownership research, and share techniques for gravestone cleaning and repair. During the afternoon session, participants will travel to a local cemetery where they will receive hands-on experience cleaning and repairing stones. The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the morning, we will be at Ivy Tech State College located at 3501 First Avenue, and in the afternoon we will be at New Salem Cemetery on Camp Ground Road.
