Posted on: Posey County In. Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Posey?read=1182 Surname: ------------------------- Hi, I can't help directly, but the folks who founded New Harmony are called Rappites, after their leader Fr. Rapp. they sold the town to Robert Owen in 1825 and in 1826 his group of scientists or humanists came to town, although lots of them left after a year. I would search the net for Rappites or Owen to find members of those groups. You are correct in assuming that many of the Rappites did return to PA after selling New Harmony, but one of the tenants of their religion was celebacy which caused problems in perpetuating the family unit.

Vernon, IN. Are there TWO Mt Pleasants? My great grandfather and grandmother are listed via death certificates as being buried in MT PLEASANT in Mt Vernon, however, their names do not show up on any of the published books on the Posey County Cemeteries. His name was WILLIAM PENN BARTON and hers was ARMADA BARTON, nee BURNETT and was married for a time to a CULLEY/CULLY. She died abt 1919 and he passed in 1930. If there is a contact name for the folks in charge of the cemetery, I would really appreciate learning that info. Thanks so much. Jim Keith St. Louis area
