Although the names are often confused, the family that usually spells their names with a J (Juncker or Junker) and the family that usually spells their name Yunker may not necessarily be related. They apparently come from different parts of Germany. The Juncker family can be traced back to Johann Juncker 1823-1907 and his wife Margaretha Mertens/Martin/Merten/Martens etc. 1830-1898 of Hesse Darmstadt. The Yunker family goes back to Jacob Yunker d. 1884 of Bavaria whose wife was Elizabeth Haas (d. 1876).

To all interested, I am placing here the list of related Schmitt lines of John (Jean, Johanne) Baptist Schmitt who brought the family to St. Wendel. The reason I want to get this out is because I have talked to relatives that did not know my grandfather had brothers or who his uncles were. Children of JB Schmitt b. 24 Jun, 1798, Alsace-Schoenau and Maria Anne Steibli b. 8 Nov, 1798, Alsace-Artolsheim. Francis Joseph Schmitt 1822-1896 Veronica Schmitt b. 1823-? (Grandmother of Archabbot Ignace Esser) Johannes Baptist Schmitt b. 1825 (Stayed in France) Madeline Schmitt b. 1827 (no further information found) Stephan Schmitt b. 1830 (in Posey co. 1850. Probably first here) Benjamin Schmitt 1832-1904 Nicholas Schmitt 1836-1899 Felecite Schmitt b. 1838 (no further information found) Albert Schmitt 1841-1926 (Civil War) Eugene Isaac Schmitt 1843-1911 All of the above children were born in Alsace-Artolsheim and the earliest immigration date I have is 1855. It seems that the family came over in groups. I have copies of all the birth records for those interested in having a copy. The record are in French for those born after 1810 and in German script, French long hand or Latin before that date.
My recent respone to Posey Query on Mary Aldride has an error and may be confusing for another reason. Number 1, I listed the generations as John, Elijah, Samuel, and John. Elijah was older brother to Samuel, not his father. Number 2, the Query Response did not reproduce my letter as I typed it, showing spacing and indentations, resulting in a confusing response. It should be: John Aldridge, b. abt 1761, prob. Randolph County, NC, settled in Posey County, 1810, a blacksmith. Married to Hannah Burgis. Their son, Samuel Alldredge, b. Feb 13, 1790, d. Dec 5, 1870, Mt. Vernon, Posey County; m. Sarah York, b. Feb 7, 1790, Randolph Co., NC, d/ Feb 15, 1875 in Mt. Vernon, Posey Co. Their son,. John AldridgeAlldredge b. Oct 9, 1816, Posey Co., d. Aug 22, 1903,in Posey Co., m. Permelia Ann Miller, Dec 29, 1836, in Posey Co. She died abt 1893, Posey Co. I hope this clarifies my previous post. Cookie, in Florida.
