She had two brothers that I know of: Sherman Jones and Leonard Jones. Nancy married Shadrick (Shedrick) Harrison in Posey in 1880. They moved to Engfield, Illinois the next year. Nancy and Shadrick were my gg grandparents. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Laurie Gaylord, Michigan

Thomas Almon Sr m Mary Sansum(Samsom, Stanson) in 1784 in Louise Co, VA. Their son James (listed at the bottom of your genealogy with the date 1818) was born in 1791 in Christian Co, KY; he married a woman named Rebecca (last name unknown) and they had a son William, b 1816. It is THIS William Almon who married Jane "Jincy" Alexander (both Williams are found on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. Jane died in 1869, William in 1887. It does not appear that they had children as they are invariably found on the census with children "living in" with them. William Almon who marries Susannah Wood (my ancestor) had no other wife. The Jasper Almon you have listed as his son was John J Almon, Minister of the Gospel and is found on the census lists as John Almon. In addition to the children you have listed for William and Susannah they also had Jemima, Ruth, and Job. Their son Bennett married Margaret Armstrong, probably related to Maranda Armstrong who married the earlier Bennett Almon. The Thomas Almon who married Rachel Malinda Givens is the son of William Almon and Susannah Woods. He was born in 1840, she in 1844, and they married about 1860. Thomas Benton Almon who married Susan I Williams in 1878 is indeed the son of Bennett and Maranda. A cousin to the other Thomas Almon, Thomas Benton was born in 1849. The person who appears on your list as Arnest Almon, married Cynthia Barr is Nathan Arnett Almon, b 1803. However, he may be the same person who appears on the 1870 census (after having moved away and returned to the area) as Bennett Almon b 1803 living with a daughter Nancy C(aroline) b 1837 and a probable grandson John. The Sarah Murphy who married William Almon (2) b 1787 is probably the Sally Almon who later married Thomas Fletchall. In addition, Thomas Almon and Mary Sansum had a daughter Nancy, who married William Moutray b app 1777, brother of Zachariah Moutray. Zachariah's grandson Johnson Moutray (b 1834) married Mary Ann Almon, b 1836, daughter of John Almon b 1811 and his wife Rebecca Hartman. In addition, Thomas and Mary had Elizabeth Almon, b about 1794, who married Tandy Holman. The Edward Butner who married their daughter Martha was one of four adopted Butner children taken in by Thomas and Mary. Although I have an extremely lengthy family genealogy prepared by a descendant of Bennett and Maranda Armstrong Almon, I have included only those families where I have been able to verify relationships with legal or census documentation. I hope this information will be helpful to you, as I note that you have extensive information on Posey Co families that you are pleased to share with other people. If you find anything in my information that you feel is questionable, please let me know. By the way, at least two descendants of Samuel Sansom Almon (who settled in Christian Co KY) migrated to Posey Co after the Civil War.
Thanks to those of you who have responded to my question about Pres. Harrison. A little background on why I'm inquiring. My gg-grandmother, Nancy Eliza Alldredge was born 9 Mar 1819 near the present location of Mt Vernon, IN. 1840 married Samuel L. Shannon, clerk of circuit court, he died 1843. 1846 she married Adam H. Ryan a KY native. Both marriages occurred in Posey Co so I believe she had spent her entire life up to then in that area. Family then moved to Knox Co IL and Pettis Co MO, returning to IL during the war and then back to MO. Husband died 1892 and she lived her final years in Knox Co with her son, Huntley Ryan, passing away in 1904. Her obituary states that one of "her cherished memories was the fact that she and her husband had before their marriage been included in the humbler friends of Gen. W.H. Harrison, before his election to the presidency". I don't know which husband it refers to. Probably her first. We are trying to trace her 2nd husband, Adam Ryan and possibly if we could figure out where they could have been familiar with Harrison it would lead us somewhere. If, of course the reference is to her 2nd husband. Adam was born July 1819 in an unknown Ky location. His parents were both born in VA. and one of them had relation to Gen. Wade Hampton III. Adam was known to be a 2nd cousin to Hampton. Whoever his Ryan family were, they were loyal to the south and Adam to the north. It's possible that all family ties were broken due to the war. Has anyone come across any Ryan's in the Posey area during the 1840's? I will follow this post with info on the Alldredge line so anyone researching them may! find use of it. I have been trying to upload my file to rootsweb but am having a problem getting it to convert or something. Nancy's obit states that she was the last survivor of 14 siblings, we have not been able to prove that many, some must have died in infancy. Regards to all.
Hello, Posey list... Some time back someone answered a query of mine about a Permelia Ann MILLER of Black Twp, Posey Co, IN. I believe she was found in the 1830 census at the home of a relative, possibly her brother. She may have been listed as 'Polly. I have misplaced, deleted, lost, or thrown away by mistake this piece of information. She later (1836) married John J. ALLDREDGE. Can you help me? Appreciate anything. > Cookie, in Florida

William T is a brother to Lycurgus. William Thomas died before 1870 (when Mrs Mary Jones and her children can be found on the census at Stewartsville living next to Lycurgus and Diana), although his estate was not settled until 1872. Mary remarried to William M Ward. She died in Grayville, IL in 1916. The Lycurgus Wells who married Annie Butler is the son of William Thomas Wells and Mary E Jones, b 1866. The White Co Index listing his father as L.J. Wells is incorrect, as Lycurgus did not have a son named for himself. I can provide with you with some additional information on this family if you would care to e-mail me directly at Maggi59@msn.com. I am descended from John Wells, brother to William and Lycurgus.

If anyone has information on a Posey County town either a past community or present one and you would like to do a brief write up on that town let me know. There will be history and biography sections in the new Posey ALHN pages and those wishing to contribute will be welcomed. Anything will be accepted as long as it pertains to Posey County and falls within the guidelines of ALHN. However if you are willing to contribute I will place your contribution somewhere. That being either in the ALHN pages or the USGenWeb pages. Full credit to the contributor will be given and your works will fall under the current copy codes. Something like this could also be a good project for some school work too. Thanks, Gilbert
Posey researchers, The Posey County site for the American Local History Network (ALHN) will soon be available through the Posey page and other sources on the Net. At this time there are quite a few Counties in Indiana available for adoption so you might want to check this out if you are interested in being a State or County coordinator. Also you could check out other States and Counties of interest to yourself. You can check at the link below for availability and requirements. http://www.alhn.org/state/index.html The new Posey County site will be hosted through GenNet and as soon as the URL's are available I'll post the address to the mail list.
