    1. Gravestone found, from Pike County!

    3. Hello All, I need to contact someone from Pike County that is familiar With Williams Cemetery, or knows who takes care of it. We have found a very large gravestone that was discarded in a field Northwest of Patoka in Gibson County within the last three weeks, that apparently came from Williams Cemetery in Pike County. The names on the stone are Hobart McCandless (1897-1965) wife Bessie McCandless (1897- 1920) and son Marion McCandless. According to the Pike County cemetery listings, they are buried in Williams Cemetery (aka Patoka Grove and Whitman) in Patoka Twp, about 4 miles SW of Winslow on road 475S. A farmer found the stone in the rural area while mowing a field with a tractor, he said the stone was not there when he mowed three weeks ago. I called him this afternoon to let him know where it came from, and he said he would haul it back there if I could find someone to contact. He was surprised that it came from so far away (about 20 mi), he said the stone will weigh around 200 pounds. If anyone knows who to contact about returning the stone to Williams Cemetery, please let me know. Ernie Lasley
