There are lots of laws pretaining to cemeteries that have grey areas, laws that need changed, and new laws that need to be written. And some that need defined, or at least an opinion of the State Attorney General on exactly what they mean. A good example is the law that you refer to. Does "Public" refer to a cemetery known as a "Public Cemetery" as defined by law, or does it also include cemeteries cared for by County and Township Government? [snip] From what I've read here and in the newspapers I'm not sure our (Indiana's) #1 problem is the lack of "good" laws protecting cemeteries and giving fair access to them. Laws can be changed. Standing in the way of that is: **Legislators who put no priority on these problems. In fairness, they do have a lot of other issues on the table but some of them have questionable value. **Public perception - or lack thereof. It's difficult to get the general public in an uproar about cemeteries, and we need an uproar to put pressure on lawmakers. **Uneven support from law enforcement and prosecutors. **Resistance from special interest groups like the Farm Bureau. IMO it boils down to getting the populace interested and involved. Until then we're just spitting into the wind. And we accomplish this by...? Larry V. Stephens [email protected]
