    3. Sue, This is unbelievable that people would want to move these burials & build on the land. It's the ultimate greediness. There were some very eloquent letters in opposition. I hope they move the people of the area to organize and save this cemetery. As for the people worried about ghosts, I realize this is a cultural thing, but as someone said, they should be much more worried if these graves are disturbed. 3. Hi Theresa and Sue, The Hancock County Cemetery Commission just caught wind that a developer wants to move a cemetery in Buck Creek Twp. There is not just one, but two cemeteries in close proximity to one another and both are in danger. Some people are unbelievable! I was so mad after I left the meeting. I couldn't sleep that night. That man is not going to move that cemetery if I have to lay in it myself! Who the heck does he think he is?! Here I go, getting myself all worked up again. We are working hard to stop it. We are going to try to convince the developer that a cemetery should be embraced as part of the history of the land. These are family cemeteries and the families cleared this land, worked it and made it what it is today . It is something that hopefully the new community that will take pride in and maintain. We have been restoring the Scotten cemetery for 2 years now and hope to have it finished before the end of the year. We have done all this work, and he just wants to go in there and destroy it. 3. Angela, Let us know what we can do to help with the Hancock Co . Cemeteries. Do you need people for support at meetings ? Letters to the Co. Planning Commision? Remember that Julia Moffat of channel 13, and some of the other reporters who covered the Franklin stor,y seemed very open to cemetery issues. Don't lay down in front of the bulldozer yet. 3. Thanks Theresa for your kindness. Our vice-president, who is also a county councilman, has talked to the county planning commissioner and took a copy of the law to him. He was aware of the new law, and made the comment that it would be difficult for him to move the cemetery (due to the law) and expensive. The cemetery president has contacted the county commissioner that supports us; and I have talked with Jeannie and gave her a heads up as to what may happen. We are planning on attending the planning commission meetings. We will also be sending a letter to the developer explaining the importance of the cemeteries and copies of the laws. Believe me, we are going to do everything that we can to save this cemetery. This developer won't be happy until he has every square inch of Hancock County developed. When county commissioners voted no for a new subdivision due to drainage issues, he threatened a lawsuit - just because he wasn't getting his way. What a nice guy.
