    3. I want to thank all of you nice people who took the time to answer my question. After reading through them I had to re read one of my sources. The reference I made to the graphite was in fact published in a booklet purchased from The Association of Gravestone Studies. Needless to say when I read it I did not relate it to "Stone rubbing" with paper between the graphite and stone. I imagine this is a typical error that readers can make. Again thanks for the advise. I know I have a lot of research to do before the Berrien County Genealogy Society embarks on our workshop in March.
